Remote Start!

Puddle lights included on GT2 or at least lights down from sideview mirrors and door handle. Also, remote starter is cheaper at Tint World, $399 with installation. Not sure if I will get it yet. Getting my windows tinted there tomorrow.

Did Tint World verify that their remote starter will work for your car?

I believe the manufacturer of aftermarket systems has to specifically format their stuff for vehicles. The Stinger is so new, that I doubt anyone has anything for them.

I stopped at Best Buy, who also sells the Viper kit and they said they couldn’t install on my Stinger.

My GT limited (Canada) comes with complimentary 5 year UVO cellular service for remote starts and other remote services. Sometimes can take up to 30 seconds to start, but I do get a confirmation when the vehicle starts and can see the status of the door locks and windows and climate. That's really useful if I'm starting the car from a few blocks away without line of sight.

Welcome aboard, @AtomicRobot! Thank you for signing up! :)

Not on all cars. In my kids new Jeep if you remote start it and then you get in with the keyfob, you just have to put your foot on the brake and hit the start button. If you put it in gear without doing that it kills the engine...
Same with my ‘13 Nissan Pathfinder

I don't know why they didn't make it like the Genesis with an app for your phone you could start your car anywhere you could be sitting in New York and your cars in California and you could start it .
They did. At least in Canada. My GT Limited has 5 years of UVO service which is cellular, meaning I can start or unlock it from anywhere in the world.

Also, when I remote start it with UVO, and get into the car with my fob, as soon as I close the door, the seat and steering wheel move into position and I can drive off. The engine doesn't stop, and I don't need to hit the start button before driving away.

Cool! Good to know.

I’ve decided to wait until next year to purchase regardless.
But it will be interesting to see if this remote start option comes to USA in a 2019 model.

Thanks for the info on the remote start . Hopefully it's already built in the US versions. My Genesis has it and is very convenient , especially when you can't remember if you liked the car or not . There are other features but apparently Kia does not think that the lower 48 deserve . It will be interesting with the Genesis G70 comes out to see what they offer . I'm still going to get the stinger I've had my Genesis for three years Love it lease is up . The stinger much more sportier looking in the TwinTurbo V6 moves . Driven both RWD and AWD , going to get the AWD i'm not really into drifting in the AWD felt more planted and less body roll . So now I'm just waiting for the color white to come to California haven't got any yet , in the GT2 AWD models .

Anyone done an install of the "factory" remote start module?

My local dealer quoted me almost $800, so just ordered it from another dealer online, for little more than half - but will have to do the install myself. From what I can find, it uses existing wire harnesses. Should be straight forward as long as no ECU updates...

There should be install instructions in package. It took my dealer about 2 hours to do so I’m guessing the hardest part is pulling panels to mount it somewhere. I’d be surprised if any module coding needs to be done.

Compared to other Kia vehicles I've installed "factory" remote start into, the stinger looks like an absolute breeze. I won't be doing the install on mine however, purely because of the door / engine shutoff that the USA version is stuck with. The 2013 Optima SXL and 2015 Sorento EX had no such issue with remote start, what a shame.

Those instructions do not look to bad. I might do this later in the year. I live in the south so warm is only needed about 2 months out of the year but A/C is just as nice to have. I do like the my Hyundai Iconiq Bluelink service. I have the remote start that I would use in the summer when I was heading to the check out line so that the car would e cool by the time I got to it.

i have had the viper smart start installed by tintworld. app on phone, gps tracker, remote start, remote trunk pop, blah blah blah. piggy backs off of stock system. no problems so far, other than the fact the app is wonky and quirky, but that is the app on phone.

Does the viper system shut off when the doors are opened, or does it keep running as long as you hold the brakes / press start?

as long as your app is up and running and you have your key for the car to recognize you, brakes, press and go. guys at tintworld took their time in routing it all. they were on with viper tech to make sure everything worked seamlessly

Do you mean you have the Kia dealer-installed remote for it to piggy-back off of, or does “stock system” mean something different in this case (since there isn’t a factory-stock option)?

Factory stock being the factory alarm. I do not have the remote start option for my car. It wasn't optioned with it, but wanted it and that feature was bundled in with the viper smart start. They piggy backed it off of the factory alarm/disabler. Sorry, sometimes I think 3 sentences ahead and my fingers can't catch up

May i ask which tintworld did the install? I don't live near one but have no problem traveling to get this done. the closes one to me is in Delaware (i'm in NJ) i want to call them and if I can point them to who successfully did an install that would probably help.

I have a GT2 in the USA. I am seeing that the car can be started with the smark key by pressing lock and trunk. this doesnt work for me. am i missing something?

I'm assuming you have a factory installed remote start. When I told my salesman that the remote start worked with the smart key, he told me I was wrong because no other Kia works that way. He was wrong because if you hit the lock and trunk open, it starts.

Yes, I was relieved to find out it didn't have the ludicrous shut off the car when you open the door "feature" that so many others have. Works perfectly.
