Remote Start!

Looks like there may be two separate instructions:
Press trunk or panic once for some units, double-press for others.
I just checked my car again and it requires a double-press.

Mine was recently installed by dealer and Karl says he installed his himself. Maybe the units installed at factory (or port) have different instructions than units dealers have, or one's a later version.

Thanks Karl, your instructions for using the Smart Key to start the car saved me a trip to dealer. The written instructions say: press LOCK, then press TRUNK-RELEASE or PANIC. It should say: press LOCK, then press TRUNK-RELEASE or PANIC twice.

As others have stated, you do not need the Start Fob.
You're welcome! :)

THANK YOU!!!

I've had my GT2 AWD for about a week and a half. It has port installed remote start. My instructions say on the Smart Key, press the lock button, then press and hold truck or panic. This doesn't work...I've set my panic alarm off more than my neighbors care to hear...lol.

Just went and tried pressing lock, then double pressing panic and, holy crap, IT WORKED!!!

When the car is locked, press the lock then press the trunk release. Don't hold the trunk release. After you do that, give it a second, your lights will flash and the engine will start.

How far does the car's original key fob work? Is there better distance using the add-on fob? Aftermarket can work from a 1/4 mile away (at best)

Hey guys I’m new to the forum, I just bought my stinger GT2 this week. My question is can I use my key to start the car? Or do I need to instal the after market remote start that they provide at KIA for $500?. The other question, is the UVO app fonctional in the USA for starting and controlling AC or just BS?Thank you all!!

You need the remote starter accessory to use your key fob to remote start your car. Also, the UVO app function to remote start your car does not work in the USA.

You don’t have to hit trunk or panic twice.

1)Make sure the car is locked, if not lock it.
2) Press the lock button
3) Within 3-5 seconds press panic or trunk
4) Wait, the car will flash the turn signals after truck or panic is pressed, the mirrors will fold out then the car will start and it will flash the turn signals again. All of this takes 5-10 seconds.

You can press the trunk or panic button 15 times during step 4 but it only needs the 1 in step 3.

I have tried both methods - Lock, then Panic or Trunk (hold) and Lock, then Panic or Trunk (twice) and neither work on my 2018 GT2. Any other suggestions/ideas?

Was your car locked in the first place before you press the lock then one of the panic or trunk release button?

yes, I tried it both ways - locked and unlocked - just to be sure.

Try pairing the remote start key fob with your smart key.
I wasn’t given a “remote start key fob”, the dealer gave me two identical smart keys.

Are you sure you have remote start on your car? You may want to visit your dealer. They are suppose to give you the key fobs that came with the remote start. You can program up to 3 smart key fobs with your car and if you need to replace your smart key for some reason, you need to be able to pair your remote start with the new smart keys. Look in your glove box for any remote start documentation. This should give you some indication if your care came with one or the dealer lied to you. The extreme case is you can take the passenger side trims and look under the glove box where it is located. If you see only one module in there with lots of open space, your car doesnt have it.

I don’t know for a fact it has remote start, I assumed it was standard with the GT2 since all their packages seem to be the same and quite a fee others on this forum have it. I’ll check all those things. Thanks for your advice.

on my car, if it’s already locked, I hit lock and then trunk (one quick press, no hold) and the car starts. It was an extra on my gt1, I think it’s an extra even for the gt2. You probably don’t have it, check your paper work. Why this isn’t standard on all GT’s is beyond me.

Thanks, I’m also surprised it’s not standard.
