Remote Start!

i have had the viper smart start installed by tintworld. app on phone, gps tracker, remote start, remote trunk pop, blah blah blah. piggy backs off of stock system. no problems so far, other than the fact the app is wonky and quirky, but that is the app on phone.
can you post a video of it? So for us in the market for remote start have an idea, how the viper smart start works on our Stingers.

I know on the wifes Sorento, I had to sync the original fob with the remote start to be able to do it. I'd have to look up the sequence on the remote start instructions that came with the car to see how to do it again.

Hope you can share the steps necessary to sync the two remotes.

If you have the factory remote start, it's already sync'd to your key fob. See owners manual.

So to be clear, is syncing the 2 fobs necessary and if so, how did you do it?
And do you have to have the second (remote start) fob with you to start the car remotely with the main fob?
Mine was Factory installed.
I have the remote fobs which I put away.
All I use is the key fob to remote start the car.
I did no syncing whatsoever.

I finally found the Stinger I was hunting, so I wanted to confirm here before the deal is finalized...

USA model only:
The UVO APP will NOT contain the remote starter option without paying at some point or even at all?
If Equiped, you do NOT need the remote start fob, only the smart key in which you press the lock then trunk to remote start?

Correct, the USA does not have remote start with UVO unless you get the K900. You do not need the remote start fob, if car comes from factory or if dealer installs, they should link your regular key fob to the remote start module. If for some reason they don't, the op manual comes with the procedure to do so.

Does the factory installed remote start on the Stinger also turn on the heat (or A/C ) when the car is remote started? My wife and I found out the hard way that her G8 had a remote start that didn't operate the climate controls a at all.
For a little front on her window I still had to go out and scrape. I'd rather not scrape a window because it can get scratched. Thanks guys!

I don't believe so, but I just leave the climate control on and it will detect if there is frost on your windshield and send air through your front defrost to clear it. The rear defrost can't be activated with the factory remote start

You don't need the fob per se, but it's just included with the remote start system which actually is required. I don't think they sell remote start systems with no remote.

My local Kia dealer did install a remote start on my '12 Optima and we didn't use a secondary fob. It was programmed to use the factory one with 2 or 3 taps.

I'll put up a word of caution to after-market or non-oem remote start installs. These tie in to your factory electronics, which can void a lot of your warranty. It doesn't guarantee that theyll void it, but if push comes to shove and it gives them a reason not to pay for any repair, well, your out of luck. Stick to OEM parts and you have a much better chance of winning that fight.

In addition, if you are thinking of getting the OEM remote start, the installation is trivial at best. The unit comes with pictures, instructions, and everything is plug and play with absolutely no wire cutting or splicing. Just locate the plugs, unplug, plug the new ones in and enjoy a warm car on a cold winter morning. If anyone has difficulty, feel free to pm me with any questions, i'm happy to help.

Just bought an OEM remote start. i've installed OEM kits in the past and found them to be straight forward yet still cumbersome. its worth the try in this case.

Got mine a few weeks ago. Was quite easy to install. Took me a little over an hour. Had I followed the instructions step by step, it would have been less than an hour. Hardest part was zip tying the cables and the modules behind the kick panel.

I wonder if this would work on an Australian RHD Stinger? We don’t have access to it here but I wonder if I got the parts from oseas and had it fitted, would it work? Thoughts?

I just installed the OEM remote starter. The wiring was extremely simple. Getting it to fit behind/above the kick panel was a pain. It is very tight in there. But, after adjusting and readjusting, I got it.

One thing to note, near the bottom of the kick panel there is a plastic tab that pops out towards the drivers door. The top of the kick panel has a hook that has to be moved toward the back of the car. The front of the kick panel (front of car) fits on the end of a screw which slips off when you pull the kick panel towards the rear of the car along with the hook at the back. Be careful, go in the correct sequence...

My sequence to start the car with the original remote appears to be different than anything that I've read. I almost gave up and then just started messing with the buttons and sequences and then it started. So, on mine, you have to press the lock button and then double-press the panic button. Maybe that is how it works on all, but everything I read was press lock then hold the panic or hatch button.

Anyway, I hope this helps someone...

Thanks Karl, your instructions for using the Smart Key to start the car saved me a trip to dealer. The written instructions say: press LOCK, then press TRUNK-RELEASE or PANIC. It should say: press LOCK, then press TRUNK-RELEASE or PANIC twice.

As others have stated, you do not need the Start Fob.

You don’t have to hit trunk or panic twice.

1)Make sure the car is locked, if not lock it.
2) Press the lock button
3) Within 3-5 seconds press panic or trunk
4) Wait, the car will flash the turn signals after truck or panic is pressed, the mirrors will fold out then the car will start and it will flash the turn signals again. All of this takes 5-10 seconds.

You can press the trunk or panic button 15 times during step 4 but it only needs the 1 in step 3.
