Winter Rim Setups

Just an FYI, if you plan on running your car through a car wash (I know sacrilegious to some :))..you may want to make sure your winter wheels are concave vs convex, I didn't think of that when I bought mine and they look like they'll hit the track going through the wash.

I make a point of telling the kid running the automated carwash part of the carwash that my wheels need to remain a safe distance away from the tracks. Some wheels it may be better to just avoid the automated car wash entirely.

I don't recall the last time I saw I car wash with tracks.... are they still common in the US? All the ones near me you drive into, (like a garage) and the wash gear moves around the car without touching it - mind you I only do touchless wash, so there maybe some I don't know of....

(not my vid - and NOT new it's from 2013!)

I need to search for a touch-less, I've never been to one.

They aren't going to get your car super clean... but no scratches! - good enough to get the salt & crud off, until it's hand wash season

For the winter that would be good enough

The one near me offers the choice of either with contact or not, and it's one without automated tracks also. The only drawback is that it takes a little longer for the apparatus to adjust to different car sizes, compared to a fully automated one with brushes, where it pulls your car along at a fixed speed.
But in winter, I prefer to wait for milder temperatures before going to a car wash. Right now, my Stinger is dirty, but it's -15C (6 F) outside so I don't want to have everything freeze on it (I park outside). Especially the fuel cap door ! So I just clean the front windows, brake lights, headlights, license plate, and multiple cameras on it.

I just found I have one down the street from my office, I may wash by hand this weekend, looks like it going to be in the 60's here in the NE

Grab a can of silicone spray and spray a bunch on a soft rag, and wipe all the rubber seals and metal where they touch, and you should be good to go. Plus it drys so you won't get any residue on you afterwards. It's a routine I do every year in the late fall. But ya it's always better to wash when it's above freezing.

Just want to give a heads up in this thread. Those of you looking to go 18" with brembos do not get JNC 026. They have the valve stem located in the center of the rim which requires a internal bump. This bump does not fit over the calipers in an 18" x 8 size. I learned this the hard way.

I've also noticed that they are not the only manufacturer that does this and I would not expect this design to work for any 18" wheel.

Sorry for no pics apparently my newb status doesnt let me.
Welcome to the forum (out in the open, at last:p). An informative/helpful post is always the best way to say hello.

Yeah I did just that in October, and it works fine for the doors and windows, but the fuel cap door still sometimes fails to open when there's a little ice and snow. I have to gently bang on the door several times to get the darn thing to open sometimes. Luckily, the gas tank is small so I have to open it more often so it keeps it working... :D
Perhaps I should spray it with silicone spray again ?

I just got my car last week, love it, and got winter rims and tires put on. Apex rims on Blizzaks. Thought they looked pretty good.

Where are you located?
Zero degrees in Edmonton today. No snow, rain yesterday.

Hey guys, its that time of the year again!

I notice u guys arent getting the standard 67.1 mm bore size. Are you guys finding the hub rings an issue? And vibrations or rattles from the wheels?

I would prefer direct fits, but not alot of selection at 67.1...

I'm on 18" size all around for the winter. General Tire Altimax Arctic 12 on Fast Wheels Aristo Gloss Black Machine Faced Smoked Clear. That setup performed very well last winter. And no, I didn't install the hub rings that came with them, and had no vibrations or anything.

I went with Blizzaks mounted on 18” fastwheels FC04s in titanium colour... I think it looks ok... I was thinking the titanium colour best matched the dark chrome accents...

What other winter setups do we have out there?
Do you have you have the exact size of tire and wheel spec? Did you add all 4 the same or do staggered? I have 2020 GTS I need to get a solution for …

Odd as it might sound... check with your dealer they often have some good deals on winter pacakges. Plus Fast wheels has a deal with KIA Canada (I ended up with the FAST FC08's (I think)
You are going to want to go for a square setup, on 18's (225 x 18 for me)
What part of Canada are you in?

I run a squared setup of 18x +35 Sparco Terras with 235/45R18 General Altimax Arctic 12.
