Winter Rim Setups

Oof, had my snow wheels/tires mounted and balanced without even considering that. Guess I'll find out this weekend if I'll have to have them balanced again when I go to put them on the car.

Keep a close lookout at the silver spot on the brakes. The red spots cleared fine, but there are some silver bits that stick out further. I guess with fancy rims a lot of wheel shops like to hide the weights deeper into the rim, but in this case, the weights need to be as close to the outside as possible to clear.

Got my winters on last week!
Michelin X-Ice 225/45R18 on Enkei EKM3's 18x8 +40

Got the tires at Costco, the rims on Kijiji and the lug nuts and hub rings on amazon. also got tpms sensors from ebay.
Costco didn't charge anything extra apart from the standard installation fee to install the sensors, hub rings and discard the old tires which were on the rims when I bought them. Thanks to the posters who advised me on the correct lug nuts to get!

Man! That sounds like a lot of work, just getting all of that together. Good for you that it turned out so spiff looking.

Guys I may be the only guy on this forum that spent under 1200 CAD (installed tax included).
I went with Durham KIA package of steel rims with cheapest tires (Ovation).

Negotiated 4 winter wheels to be included in the deal from a Kia dealer when I bought my slightly used AWD Stinger GT Limited. They gave me Metallic Black Fast Wheels FC04 with 18" General Tire Altimax Artic 12 mounted on them. So far, I like them. But we'll see when real snow gets here (Quebec, Canada).

Thought about going with them but didn't like the fact that they were charging $200 for the TPMS sensors and when I mentioned getting my own the response was the tires were already installed on the rims so they wouldn't be able to do that.
Went with 18" Advan replicas with Mirage MR W562's. Just a hair under $1200 with everything including installation. So far absolutely no issues in various weather conditions.

I had no issue with TPMS.
I just told them not to install tires on rims since I would be bringing TPMS.

Just a personal opinion of course, but when I went I went looking for winter tire/rim options I knew one thing for sure, that I didn't want generic stamped steel wheels. The car is too nice for that, and summer or winter I want it at it's best.

Kia Rio yes, Kia Stinger no. The cost of a good looking 'winter ready' alloy wheel isn't that much more expensive, and you'll be driving on them for a long time to come. Same goes for choice of winter tires - I bought the car because I wanted great performance, regardless of season.

I downsized to a square 18in setup for winter. I went with a combo from discount tire. Drag DR-67 / General Altimax and new TPS sensors. Cost about ~$1400. So far they have been performing great in Massachusetts snow, ice, slush. 20200102_113656.webp

Small update, we finally got some snow and I can report great performance from the Altimax Artic 12. I also downsized to 18" for the winter. Wheels are Fast Wheels Aristo Gloss Black. Happy New Year 2020 to all Stinger Owners ! (don't know the price of all four wheels+tires since it's the Kia dealer from which I bought the car that paid for them.)

Thanks. I also had to wait to find one at a dealer near me. It's a 2018 GT Limited that had low mileage on it. During the short time it took for me to buy it at the dealer, there was another guy that had also seen it and was coming to test drive it. I was lucky to get the colour I wanted. But unfortunately, the 1:18 model I got wasn't available in High Chroma Red anymore...

From what I gathered, your Stinger might look a little like this ?

With black steel winter rims, which gives it almost an unmarked P71 look (minus the chrome center hubcaps)... ;)

18"x 225 on all four corners... Michelin X-Ice, on dealer "Kia" branded rims (that I covered in red vinyl) ;-) I forget the brand they quoted... might have been fast rims??? and they haven't seen a single snow flake lol

Just want to give a heads up in this thread. Those of you looking to go 18" with brembos do not get JNC 026. They have the valve stem located in the center of the rim which requires a internal bump. This bump does not fit over the calipers in an 18" x 8 size. I learned this the hard way.

I've also noticed that they are not the only manufacturer that does this and I would not expect this design to work for any 18" wheel.

Sorry for no pics apparently my newb status doesnt let me.
