Wider Tire sizes

Good Morning I have had my Stinger for 6 months now with 30000 km. Just replace the worn out michelin's with 255 35 19 General's all 4 corners on stock rims. Looks a lot better and no clearance issues with the front struts.

My question to all is, does anyone know what size spacer would be needed for a 245/40-19 on stock front wheel? Or would it fit on a 8.5 wide aftermarket with 35 offset. Then on top of that can it be lowered if needed? Has anyone setup either way? Thanks in advance. Rob

I am still running the stock 19's front and rear. on the front I have enough room between the sidewall and strut to fit my fingers in, about 3/4 of an inch. When you go to lower it the bottom spring perch is still going to be in the same spot so the tires are not going to be any closer to the strut.

My rears are worn down quite a bit after 8000klms.

I was thinking of going with
235 / 40 / 19 which 1.3% larger
265/ 35 / 19 which is 1.1% larger

so only a minor difference to stock

the 275/ 35 / 19 are 2.2% larger

Your doing well ShannonC, since running my JB4 on map 5 with a 30% Ethanol fuel mix I'm destroying mine quickly, on the upside its a lot of fun

I think i'll get a set of the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S, I had these on my last car a BMW 335 absolutely awesome tyre

They are cheaper than the Michelin’s, exact price unsure, ran Falkens on my SS great tyre & good grip in wet & dry plus hard wearing.

Tires aren't the only mod I have. I have no idea if tires caused my mpg. I just drove 79.1 miles and average 20.01 mpg with a mix of about 75 hwy/25 city.

Can you tell me your wheel specs as well as tire sizes? And if you're lowered?

The factory 255's are a perfect fit for the rear factory wheels, however the 275's will fit fine on the rears, as stated above, the tire will stick past the wheel a bit, but nothing that will affect the dynamics much.

The fronts could also run a wider size, a 245 will fit great. However when changing the widths of the tires you will also be changing the sidewall size as well. So basically for a 255/35/19 (oem size rear) the sidewall measures 3.5" whereas on a 275/35/19, the sidewall measures 3.8". In the case of the front tires, the factory size is a 225/40/19 the sidewall measures 3.5" and on a 245/40/19 the sidewall measures 3.9".

If you look at the numbers you can see why KIA decided to use those tire sizes, the sidewall measures the same and maintains a leveled ride height.

And would running taller sideways 275/35 or 275/40 still be safe? Any side effects of taller & wider tires on OEM wheels?

There is no "safe" width for a particular rim, it depends on the tires themselves. Every tire manufacturer has a specification sheet for acceptable range of rim widths for each tire size, although some may be harder to find than others.

Oh ok. So were you saying 275s may fit in general, or speaking about a specific 275 tire that fits our 8.5 rim? Sorry for all the questions, I’m just looking at the Firehawk Indy 500s and want the widest I can get for the stock rear wheels.

Anyone know if a 18x10 with +33 offsets would work at the front (and 18x10.5 + 33 at the rear??

I haven’t seen anyone pushing 10” wide at the front.

Do not put 275mm wide tires on a 8.5" wheel. the max recommended tire width for 8.5 is 255mm. A 275mm tire is NOT SAFE on a 8.5" wheel.
