Wider Tire sizes

Has anyone tried or heard of wider tires on the factory 19" wheels . Rear is 255, was thinking 275's might fit. Sure would look a bit meaner. Just curious...

I'm actually looking at possibly doing something similar. But I'm no tire guy, so I'm not sure how it will look/work.

The difference in width would be 2 cm, so maybe a half inch wider on each end. I bet it would fit, though the tires will stick out a bit further the the outside edge of the rims. I actually prefer that look and it provides a smidgen more protection for the rims. My 2 centavos

I haven't seen anyone try any different sizes yet, but I think a little more tire might be better all around.

The factory 255's are a perfect fit for the rear factory wheels, however the 275's will fit fine on the rears, as stated above, the tire will stick past the wheel a bit, but nothing that will affect the dynamics much.

The fronts could also run a wider size, a 245 will fit great. However when changing the widths of the tires you will also be changing the sidewall size as well. So basically for a 255/35/19 (oem size rear) the sidewall measures 3.5" whereas on a 275/35/19, the sidewall measures 3.8". In the case of the front tires, the factory size is a 225/40/19 the sidewall measures 3.5" and on a 245/40/19 the sidewall measures 3.9".

If you look at the numbers you can see why KIA decided to use those tire sizes, the sidewall measures the same and maintains a leveled ride height.

Are you "sure" 245 will fit in the front without a problem?
I'm thinking of going 245 front and rear on my AWD GT1.

Yes, there is enough clearance from the struts and control arms in the front. The tire will protrude a bit but you will be fine.

I don't know if the tires caused it but I only get about 275 miles per tank.

Do you have pictures of your setup? And wow that is pretty drastic for just tires. That is what i get with e85 blend

Tires aren't the only mod I have. I have no idea if tires caused my mpg. I just drove 79.1 miles and average 20.01 mpg with a mix of about 75 hwy/25 city.

The picture I posted above is 285s. Not on stock wheels though.

Most people here use 245 40 19 in the front and 275 35 19 in the rear on aftermarket wheels. Most aftermarket wheels will be of size 8.5 and 9.5 and here are some pics of the same wheel with stock tyre and the wider tyre mentionned above.
It is obvious that the thicker sidewall fills the wheel house better.

For me wider tires would wreck playful balanced nature of the car. Kia engineers did very good job striking balance between grip and ability to let car move a bit. It’s funny longer I had the Stinger the less I wanted to mod it.
