What did you do to your Kia Stinger today?

They look good, they will certainly allow for increased airflow. You should consider upgrading the stock filter boxes to the aFe CAI system you can also get a pre filter sock for the pods as well, you will certainly notice some power gains coupled with those Dynomotive intakes.
I have to agree. The stock air boxes are negating any benefits the increased airflow from the Snorkels.

Good looking snorkels, I'd consider them if they become available in the US.

That mesh is going to negate any benefit from the larger size over the Velossa. That may or may not actually have an impact, but I'd probably just skip them and trust my air filters. The crap in your airbox doesn't seem particularly troublesome or dangerous to me.

Yes, the mesh will reduce the airflow but that's why I opted for a set of snorkels with a significantly larger inlet.

Im not against the idea of the aFe boxes. I quite like them but I'm trying something new and sharing my learings as opposed to dropping a thosand dollars because its the new thing that the cool kids are doing.

Everybody is doing it dont be a wuss. You know you wanna be cool

The aFe look like a nice setup being enclosed and all. But those air filters are small compared to the aFe I use in my AEM CAI.

Left the house at 530. Drive down the street, low tire indicator comes on. Drive back to driveway and swap out for the donut in the dark. Take the tire to my local Canadiantire. Nice large piece of metal in the tire. Luckily I bought the tire warranty so the replacement tire was free. Just had to pay for balancing and new tire warranty. Picked up tire later on in the afternoon and put it back on myself in the parking lot. Drive home with a smile on my face like I have every day I drive the car.

Let's wait and see....

It could be flushed with a hose from the inside out to clean and as for wear, these are filter socks for exposed motorbike filters so they're meant to take some punishment.

If for whatever reason this experiment fails, it's no big deal. The nose is so easy to remove on the Stinger. But if it works and lasts.....

So I know it's only been a couple of days but......

Point 1.
I underestimated how restrictive the prefilter mesh is.
The car felt noticeably more sluggish. Not like crazy bad but definitely noticeable.

Point 2.
Yesterday I was driving in a windy area and there was leaves and debris all over the place and when I had a look in the air boxes today, there was NOTHING. So, the mesh worked to keeps the boxes clean.

Anyway, today I decided to hit the undo button on the hydrophobic prefilters AND went back to the Velossa snorkels.

Firstly, ( out of curiosity ) I timed how long it takes to remove the nose from the Stinger and with the car on the quickjacks and tools at the ready, it takes me 15 mins at normal speed while still being very careful. It still amazes me how little holds the nose on.....

Now, why did I go back to the VT's and not keep the Dynomotive ducts ?
The Dynomotive ducts are 3D printed and have mediocre rigidity in the bolt holes and after having them bolted on for only a couple of days, the plastic had compressed and the bolts were already becoming lose. And, without the mesh on, they would be significantly better at sucking crap in than the VT's and that's the oposit of what I was hoping to achieve.

In conclusion. I tried something and it didn't work and all can learn from my experiment.

P.S. I did do a sneaky little mod to the factory set-up that does help increase airflow but I'm keeping that one to myself for now.

My 60K miles service was today. Massive 30% increase in overall cost (FJB).

Merlin thanks for posting. Does the car drive any different?

When it comes time, I think most of that I'll do myself. Maybe trans/front diff pay to have it done as it's a pain to access. We'll see.

I have a tool for the coolant (https://www.amazon.com/UView-550000-Airlift-Cooling-Checker/dp/B0002SRH5G) which works well to refill after draining without having to use a burp funnel.

Unrelated;

I followed a state trooper this afternoon for about 5 miles while he had his lights on. He was upwards of 30 mph over the speed limit at times. Anyway, eventually we're finally at a red light, side by side. Honk the horn to get him to lower the window (he's in a suv). Tell him his lights been lit last few miles. He blames it on the last guy who drove the car. Riiiiiiiiiiight...

@DJ, 60K miles is a good interval IMO to drain/refill the coolant. Not sure what kind of flush they do.

Nothing wrong with doing it early, It is just unnecessary. I tend to stay with the factory recommendations for this type of thing.

The Kia manual recommends 1st coolant change after 200,000kms (120,000miles) under normal conditions, and notably, no difference for severe conditions.

Curious why the coolant and transmission was done. Having issues? How about the brakes? The filters you could have done yourself and the GDI clean is a $15 can of spray. Also a reason why I invested in an OCC. The crap it collects helps keep the valves clean, and it gives me a point of entry to spray the cleaner in. If no issues all to needed to do was oil change which to have a maintenance plan for.

Does the car drive any different?
No. It was fine before and after the service.
Wonder why they did the premature coolant flush?

Is that normal?
I don't know what "normal" is in this case. The manual and this Canadian service schedule don't jive. I'm assuming that dealerships go by a similar schedule.

They are on the schedule; this would be the second time I've had them replaced (but I'm not seeing where the trans fluid was "replaced", it only gets inspected and topped up; what else did they do?). The brakes (as you can see on the service sheet, pic three) are great, 8mm all around. Filters, heh, I am good for the cabin filter: could have done that one myself and saved a few bucks, but none of the rest of this is going to get touched by me: no tools, no gearheadedness :p, no interest in it either. Have fun, all you gearheads.
