The Kia Stinger Oil Thread

Interesting video I found on YouTube testing/comparing Mobile 1 Full Synthetic with Amazon Basics. Amazon holds up really well and much cheaper. Wondering if anyone has tried it.

Amazon Basics and the Costco Kirkland oil are probably the same oil (they're both made by Warren Distribution). I'm running the Kirkland oil and it seems to be fine so far, but only have about 1000 miles on it.

get yourself an oil extractor. You'll extract more oil with less effort.
I used to only be able to drain 4L from my other Kia. But with the extractor it drains out 4.5L which is max oil capacity.



Do you siphon from the dipstick tube?

Mine is manual pump, haven't removed a drain plug in over a decade. 10 minute oil change without having to get under the car.. oh, wait, they decided to put the freaking cartridge underneath, unlike every other Kia I've owned since 2010!

The motor pumps directly into the bottle/jug, saves hassle of pouring oil out.
Other than getting car on ramps, I didn't find much difficulty with the filter. And you don't need to crawl far underneath as filter is near front, where's the drain plug is further back..

Are you just throwing your bottles/jugs of used oil in the trash? In the USA, we tend to take used oil to a disposal facility (my closest parts store) - so I just take the pump and empty it there.

No, I meant the ratings on the pump - 3 or 4 "not worth it, cheap, broke after 2 uses" types of comments about the pump, not the seller..

My pump is a "sealed container", but whatever. It's served me for over a decade without question, so..

I've used it about half a dozen times and it's still working.
It only cost about $20.
A bargain considering it makes oil changing easier & the fact that more oil is drawn out!

Cross-post from Dealership thread. Any help with oil level reading? I'm not an idiot and have changed my own oil for 20 years. This is the first time I've had the oil done at a dealership, ever, but I was in a bind and needed to get it done. Am I making things up? '19 GT2, 17,000mi.

The factory oil (that came in your Stinger) is Total Quartz 9000 Energy HKS G310.

For some reason, I'm having serious issues posting. It keeps saying it looks like spam. I'll try removing all useful information and see if it works. You can PM me for a link to the source of that information, because the site won't seem to let me post it.

HKS G310 is an extended mileage oil, designed to last 30,000KM or 18,641 miles. The standard 9000 series can be ordered on Amazon for $38. I did a lot of research, and Total oil actually is better than pretty much anything else. It's the manufacturer recommended product for all new German makers as well as Hyundai/Kia. Using Mobil 1 probably wouldn't make much of a difference, but you should get slightly better mileage and longer engine life with Total.

I wrote a fair amount about oil, which rating to use under different conditions and why, but I am guessing the few paragraphs of info was the issue with posting? I don't know. Anyway...

In short, if you're trying to decide which oil to buy, Kia's answer is Total Quartz 9000 5w-30.*

*which rating depends on climate, and whether you have a 2.0L or V6. I've deleted all the explanations on which to use and when. Hopefully this will go through.

Just went to order total quartz 9000 oil- says it doesn't meet fitament for the stinger... recommends total quartz ineo instead. Dammit... so many strains of oil that make this overly complicated. This Toal oil is a French product and recommended in Porche's Bmw's and other Euopean makes. Since my Stinger is basically a half priced M series- I'm going with Total- just wish I knew FOR SURE if I should get the 9000 or Ineo.

you could use weasel piss as long as you changed it regularly.......changing oil is by far more important THAN the oil used.

Please forgive my potential stupidity here but why 6,000 miles exactly? The BMW 3.0L oil service interval is 2y / 20,000 miles w/ many examples of engines over 200K+ going strong, a few over 500K miles.

I can understand a "catch" all for varying weather climates, short trip drivers and different usage but surely 10K / 1y is sufficient? As they near enough demand one gets a service from a main dealers over here, when I was doing 38K miles a year It'd be in for a service six or seven times.! Anyway, I'm just curious because it has put a fair few off the Stinger when discussing about it.

My issue is less than a thousand a year and short trips to work......so once a year every spring
