The Kia Stinger Oil Thread

Yeah, even with all the different allowed options the 2018s had (0w30, 20w50, etc), 30 was the lowest weight that was allowed. I would demand a refill (no need to do filter again, just drain + refill) with 5w30 mininum..

What oil filter can I use? Does it have to be the OEM oil filter from the dealership, or is there a cheaper better filter I can use?

I’d use the oem filter, saves any drama with the dealer when you get it serviced and they pull out another brand.

I needed to get extenders for the ratchet, the steering module is in the way.
And yes, the steering module will get oil all over it. I wrapped mine in foil.
My dealer places a piece of cardboard over it to direct spillage away.....seems to work well.

Much better than having dealer do it. Seeing how they treat econoboxes and Stinger the same.
I would not take it to dealer to have oil change. Not to mention they'll use the cheapest bulk oil they can find.
Bulk oil, yes. Cheapest, no

Was just at Costco the other week and saw this. Kirkland Full Synth oil. SN Plus, GF-5 and Dexos Gen2 rated which exceeds all requirements for the 3.3TT motor. $25 for 10 quarts ($12.50 per 5 quart jug). Made by Warren Distribution who makes Amazon Basics Full Synthetic.

Damnit. I would have totally gotten this but I was in a rush in Costco and tunnel-visioned on Mobil 1!

That oil is API G4-F which is outdated.
Kudos it meets ACEA A5 standard though.
My local dealer uses Havoline. But really it's the workmanship I'm more concerned with.

WIX has a replacement filter for our cars. Inexpensive. Even made in Korea. PN - WL10237

Superior to OEM, in my opinion, due to composite ends instead of the paper/cardboard based frame.

Hi guys! Last 3 days I had to do a 2000 km trip. Car just got to 40.800 km and I realized my last oil change was at 28.800 km (in September).
For some reason the kia service did not activate de service interval (!!) and I was sure that my former replace was very close to 30.000 km so I thought a few hundred km over should not be a problem.
Do you think the engine (2.0t-gdi) could have been affected by this 2000 km extra with the old oil (mostly done on highway)?
The oil used was Mobil 1 5w30.
Thanks!
PS: Not using it until I get the oil changed.

No.

Highway cruising is also the least stress on the engine.

Saw that too.. But it doesn't have ACEA A5 or better? Pennzoil Platinum is around $20/gal and does.

Edit: should have said ~$20 for 5 quarts..

Great thread. I am purchasing a 2019 GTS this week. I was wondering what the KIA dealers charge for an oil change. I used to change the oil in my corvette and camaro but I am disabled now and I can't physically do it anymore. A Mobil 1 oil change on my Z06 is around $100 at my Chevy dealership. I live near Augusta, GA and I have 2 KIA dealers but I am buying my car from a dealer in TN since the GTS's around here sold before November 2019.

Interesting video I found on YouTube testing/comparing Mobile 1 Full Synthetic with Amazon Basics. Amazon holds up really well and much cheaper. Wondering if anyone has tried it.

If you are really curious about using the Amazon oil, I would encourage you to use it for a small and initial oil change interval and send it out for analysis. The tests shown in the video are hardly comprehensive and shed no light on how the oil holds up over time. Additives to combat oxidation, fuel dilution, contamination, etc. are critical to oil performance over time and would not be reflected in the crude (pun intended ) wear and viscosity tests shown in the video.

For the record, Mobil 1 frequently offers rebates and I am able to purchase the 5qt container (full synthetic) at Walmart with rebate for around 13 dollars.

just to share my terrible experience with you guys, just got my 10000km service done from local dealer in Sydney today (Ryde KIA)
engine oil they've used is Castrol EDGE OE-X 5W which i never heard of and not even sure if it meets requirement from KIA.....
here are the list of issues that i've mentioned to the service center person and they have not fixed one single issue saying "checked but tested ok"
  • Tire pressure warning (they've pumped air all the way upto 47 psi for all four tires......idiots dont know 39psi is the max...)
  • permanent vibration coming into cabin (this is the most annoying thing started when it hits 8000km where vibration from engine gets passed into cabin so handle and seats shakes all the time.........engine mount & transmission mount checked but tested ok? so what that makes me a liar?)
  • rattle from sunroof ( they saying its a common issue but didnt have enough time to fix it so make another booking & comeback next time....)
  • rattle from boot ( checked and tested ok.......bs noise is still there...)
  • rattle from HUD unit (checked and tested ok...... same bs, rattle still there, i bet they haven't even looked at it)
  • rattle from center air vent ( checked and only rattle heard was from customers fan attached.....air freshener fan was attached to passengers side not in center......moron...)

This is the reason why i don't take the Stinger to the dealer service dept.
Utter & complete incompetence. They really need to start treating Stinger differently to a Rio which is often not the case.
