The $12000 GT2 stinger rebuild project

______________________________
Valves should not look like this after only 18k miles....... This is so sad. And people say you don't need an oil catch can. View attachment 38830
Too bad Kia didn't have the foresight to make the engine with Direct and Port injection like many others have. Toyota's D4S is a great implementation of this idea. I think the idea is to be included on the rumored and new Kia 3.5TT, but I am not sure.

CF hoods are fine as long as they are painted (as they should be).
This.. this is sacrilege you speak of. BURN THE HERETIC!!! thou shall not cover thy holy pure carbon in sinful paint!
Jk, will probably wrap it grey later. Will try out the carbon look for now.

UPDATE:
So the power steering motor can be replaced, however only with the same type of motor. And just my luck no one is selling the motor that I need. Also it is a royal pain to remove said motor with the 3.3. the 2.0 does not have the oil cooler assembly blocking some bolt access. Tried removing the assembly, oil started leaking. So ya, not going that route. Anyways, the parts should come today.
Cost: $1750 power steering assembly. Yep there goes my paycheck lol. Also + $140 for the orange glitter coupler and +$10 for some headlight tabs. That brings the total parts cost up to $7363.28.

You know your rebuild is serious when your garbage starts to look like a parts wearhouse. Also add $90 for stickers. Yep I got the red GT wheel cap stickers and the stinger wheel sticker. And the carbon fiber rear stinger badge.
We all know stickers add horsepower. I figured that's an additional +20hp. IMG_20200309_212023.webp

Your math is all wrong!!!! - those stickers add 20HP - PER AXEL!
jesssh some people SMH :D /jk

But with one missing sticker, you only have an extra 30HP

I have the same ones on mine. Just a tip (because I cant tell if they're sticking around the edges or not) use heat to make them stick all the way around. Looks like they already are, but if not, that's the trick

Small update: power steering rack assembly replaced, valves cleaned, spark plugs removed and awaiting the HKS. Jhonny Tig intakes ordered, also ordered radiator and condenser. Lol kia calls the cooling fan "blower assembly" but the only thing that deserves to be called "blower assembly" is something that sits on top of the engine and whines a lot. Supercharged stinger build next?

How'd you end up cleaning your valves? Please tell me you did the CRC method with the manifold off, and let it fizz...right? Walnut blasting is a waste of money. The CRC stuff literally dissolves the carbon buildup. All you have to do afterwords is just wipe and/or suction it out of the runner (valves closed, obviously - for all the trolls that would foolishly think I mean to spray it in a runner while the valve is open *shakes head*).

Yeah I used CRC on the valves and let it sit there for a day. They where very dirty, CRC cleaned it up pretty good. For sure getting an oil catch can.

Nice!! Excellent work so far.

I skipped a couple pages, so you might have already answered this, but, have you had a chance to get the frame checked out/straightened yet?

I want to see a progress pic!

Frame guy is coming next week if he is available. I have the new apron rail already. All that's left is to drill out the old one and weld the new one.
