Sunset Yellow Discussion

My paint job seems to be pretty good. Everything looks very even except I noticed when it’s parked in the garage with the lights on... I can just barely tell the painted portions are slightly brighter than the bumper.. nothing you would notice sitting outside or in the light.. it looks awesome then...

Only issue I’ve had since getting my car back is the driver side door seems slightly off and the trunk now rattles when it never did before which is starting to piss me off... I haven’t made an appointment yet but will soon

Were you advised of a stand down period to let the paint cure? How long was it in the shop for?

Delivered my yellow Stinger to the dealer/paint shop on Nov. 15th. Got the car back yesterday, Dec. 5th. Repaint look excellent. Word from the KIA dealer in OKC that the KIA inspector was totally pleased with his inspection saying it was the best repaint he has inspected, asking if they could sent other cars to him for repaint. Wonder if it was just banter. But the repaint does look very good and I cannot see where the repaint started and ended. Nothing suggests a repaint. Have turned in the paper work for the KIA incentive to keep the car. Happy in OKC.

Did they do a full repaint stripped back to bare metal Fred? And do you know if the yellow primer was used or the white?

I tried to post them but the site says they are too large and would not post.
Ah, when the latest tech is too good. Resize and post again; and reduce the resolution (file size) setting so that your files aren't so danged big! :P

Took about 6 weeks ... have had it a month now .. what stand down period?

The new paint has to outgas or offgas.

Paint Needs to Breathe. Wait at least 30 to 60 days before waxing or sealing.
Yea I haven’t done any of that.. not going to either... maybe get it waxed but it’s winter here now and should have earlier but then it would have been right after getting painted so.. it’s leased.. if it turns to crap then I don’t need to keep it... love the car though..

I feel they are way overpriced for 250 for some plastic air ducts

I don’t find the price too bad. They look great and really help that intake get the cold, free flowing air it thirsts for at higher speeds.

I want to know what the gains are before I would spend that much on them though... I don’t see them adding that much .. maybe with aftermarket intake it might add a little... they do look cool though I’ll give them that

I stayed away from the paint shop during the 45 or so days they had it. My dealer did take pictures and yes, it was stripped down and the proper procedures were followed as of KIA, the paint shop, and the dealer.. As for the primer, what was asked for by KIA was done.

The correct brand and type of primer was on backorder for most of us getting a repaint.

Yo man did you get yours repainted yet? Saw it sitting at Belzers a while back when I was driving by.... Wondering if you are going to keep it or not

Update on my surrender...went to dealer and was NO SHOWED by Morely. Sat in Service Director office for 1hr and then left. No word yet from Kia or Morely on what next steps are. Buy off amount is now out of date so they will most certainly have to redo checks.

The dealer was furious as well. No phone call no whereabouts of Morely.

They did have another GT that was recently back from paint and the car was an earlier buyback. Paint was acceptable for the most part where new paint was...NOT EVEN CLOSE on matching to the rest of the car. Upon closer inspection, multiple flakes missing on the inner door jambs. Anyway, Service Director tells me the car is going to auction this week as his dealer does not even want to hassle with selling it. If mine too goes to auction, i may just show and see what it goes for. As @Expert4 posted, the 5K compensation was not enough for the paint issue, but, i would consider a buyback after the fact if the price is right. I absolutely love the car and the color but not enough to pay full price for botched paint.

The Service Director also mention that the dealership was not happy in that "they" (the dealer) would still have to deal with the next guy buying the car since it will still be covered by all Kia Warranty. So what is the dealer supposed to do when the next buyer comes in and says "WTF, my paint is flaking?!"

When mine gets surrendered, i will certainly ask them to notify me of when and where the auction will occur.
