what do you guys think of the ford mustang mach e? is tough to keep an EV charged, i mean like, do you have to buy special equipment and keep it at your house or garage to charge every 379 miles? i dont know how EV's work. I wonder, are they better made vehicles than regular ones? i mean, we get almost 300 miles to a tank of gas, and an EV can only do 379? that doesnt impress me enough to switch. im all about not having to buy gas anymore, but do you pay it in others ways anyway with an EV, like electricity or something. And do the service departments even know how to work on electric vehicles? No more oil changes? or coolant? or gasoline...
I like EV's and next vehicle will probably 99% be one. For the foreseeable future, we probably will keep the stinger or another ICE vehicle for specific scenarios/hobby car/ etc but an EV will cover 99% of everyday driving.. We enjoy driving and go out for pleasure drives often but even then usually never exceed 200 miles a day. Most EV's now will do at least 200 miles easily and generally, most people's commute a day is probably less than 50-70 miles round trip which will fully top back up overnight even on 120v household plug without needing a 240v outlet for faster charging, and if needed for trips or a one off scenario, hit up a dc fast charger and get 80% in 25 -30 min.
You will probably need an electrician to install a 240v (dryer style) outlet so that you can charge up your ev overnight after a full depletion but i know many people who get by without doing that just fine.
quality wise, that's just as up in the air as any other vehicle, dependent on manufacturer etc, less mechanical things to go wrong but now electronics/computers are more crucial... (modern gas cars are just as dependent on computers now so not really much of a specific con to EV's)
The new kia EV6 had to charge for about 7 hours to do a 2,880 mile trip.. yes, a gas car could do it much faster but how many people are actually doing that vs, taking time to eat/ rest etc for a long trip like that. You'd probably stop to eat at least 4 times in a 42 hour road trip and take a couple naps... which would be at least 4-5 hours if you took short stops + about an 2hours for 10 fuel stops if you refueled every 300 miles or so.
The one place that still needs improvement is obviously there needs to be massive expansion of fast charger networks to accommodate more and more ev's and in locations that are more rural.
but for a daily driver, I think it's pretty perfect.. almost no maintenance, other than tires, coolant change every 100k for the climate control/battery temp, possible cv axle replacements on high torque models in 100k miles..
Will I ever only have an EV? probably not, once we are in the EV world, i'll probably pick up a v8 sporty car of some sort as a hobby... love those v8 noises
