Stinger discontinued in 2022

At the dealer yesterday getting an oil change and having them look at the roof molding paint coming off, talked to the sale manager and he said 2022 is the last year for the Stinger, they have a real nice gray one with the Scorpion package on the floor... asking 62k for it
Dealer: "This is the last of its kind."
You: "How much is it?"
Dealer: "More than any rational human will pay."
You: "Is that why it's being discontinued?"
Dealer: "No, it's just that there's no demand."

[of course this wasn't true pre-pandemic, many of us got very good deals on our new 2020 and 2021 Stingers]

May not be cancelled next year though.. probably no second generation but hopefully a few more years of production? Exclusive: Kia Has No Plans To Kill The Stinger
My thinking as well, they'll make them for a few more years / until the platform starts to look old compared to the competition. There's been no rumors of the second gen in development, like NOTHING. And after the Kia's rep's recent quote indicating the EV6 is the 'spiritual successor' for the Stinger, it's 99.99% guaranteed now the Stinger is done in the next couple years.

Damn, I saw a black Scorpion going for 55k which I thought was way overpriced for what essentially is a worse spoiler (imo) different wheels and a half assed black package. If they wanted to charge that much they coulda at least went all the way and do gloss black on all outside trim. Adding a few more ponies wouldn't have hurt either. Make it 380-400 to justify the bad ass scorpion package name.
The sticker was about 55k and some change, then they added that little sticker to the right that’s usually reserved for dealer add ons, the only add on was $6k

They saw this and got big ideas:

Just read an article today that said they have no plans to kill the stinger according some American Kia VP and that it's sales were exactly where they want em to be.

Lol. That's to be expected. I don't know whether Kia will or won't cancel the Stinger but I do know that most people won't run out and buy a car that's about to be cancelled. Kia wants to continue making money up until the swan song, so they have no logical reason to tell potential customers that it's going to be cancelled soon.

For reference, a couple of years ago Kia swore the Cadenza and K900 weren't being axed from North America. Adding to the looney tune nature of Kia's planning/announcements, Kia debuted the refreshed Cadenza IN THE U.S. last February and the car was discontinued from U.S. dealers just 10 months later.

At this point the blog posters have more credibility than Kia's execs.

Agreed!

I mean, didn't Kia execs express puzzlement as to why the Stinger wasn't selling well in the US ignoring the fact that they l gimped the car in the US market, the market for which they claim to have designed the car?

How is it gimped?

We don't get rear LSD in the AWD models we didn't get UVO Link/Kia Connect until the refreshed model hit the states, we didn't get the bimodal exhaust, etc. but for me it was the lack of speed alerts, remote lock/unlock and valet mode that were the deal breakers. When I hand the keys to nephews I want to be able to monitor them so they do not get into street racing like I used to, and want to be able to remotely unlock if the keys manage to get locked in the car.

(Every Kia competitor offered those remote/connected features for years)

Other markets could get some or all of those features, and I KNOW the infrastructure was in place because I've logged into the servers that run the UVO/Blue Link network. (I was an escalation engineer at their hosting company and it infuriated me that they didn't offer it in the US and their customers service were LYING to me that the infrastructure wasn't in place even though I personally have been logged on to the back end.)

Okay, that's fair. I guess if you look at the competition it is lacking in some ways. I never had issues with the lack of connectivity as I wasn't looking for it initially, but ended up getting it due to the model year I bought.

I figured by gimped you meant they removed something that was already there, sort of like what happened to the GT1 in M.Y. '22.

I'm considering the EV6 GT to keep the miles off the Stinger.

Anyone else considering the Ev-6 GT?

I had one of those electric mustang things parked across the street for a few days. Checked it out a bit. I believe it's going to be a direct competitor to the Ev-6.

If I consider an electric car the mustang might be something I'd consider. I think it looks a little better than the Ev-6.

But more likely than not my next car will be gasoline powered.

When I bore of my S5 I'm going to get an Etron-GT.

The next Kia I buy will probably be a Forte or K5 for the wife. But not until selection and prices normalize.

If the Tesla Model 3 were a liftback like the Tesla Model S is it would have gotten a more serious look. I'm not yet ready for CUV driving height, but I do like the utility of a hatch.

Yes, and he explained to me that he prefers the community police itself instead of relying on intervention from moderators. So there's that.

But back to the regularly scheduled programming.

yup , nothing like a little dust up to get things sorted out ! ............................like a back alley fight after school . annnyyywaaay , yes I will submit to the E revolution, likely after I get my new V8 SUV .................just need one more dose of that "quad pipe rumble" then on to EVs . In fairness with all the delays in getting my SQ8 I did order an Etron S Sportback "just in case" Audi are prioritizing delivery of lower emission vehicles BUT my heart is still on the V8 ...........................

I remember reading about the long delays in custom Audi orders years ago. I can't imagine how painful the wait must be with the chip shortage. I don't have the patience to wait a year for anything. A few years back I custom ordered a Wilson Combat 1911 and was given a 6 month lead time--I didn't even make it 30 days before cancelling my order and buying something else. I'm just way too impatient.
