Smart cruise control conditions not met.

Just to reconfirm, after a Vienna - Bucharest trip today (1000km), my SCC works flawlessly. So definitely not a hardware thing that caused the episode where it was not turning on..

Hi I am getting this message when trying to enable the cruise control. " SMART CRUISE CONTROL CONDITIONS NOT MET"

Used for a week no issues then just happened one day. Any one else have this issue? I have tried cleaning the window section covering the censer.
This came up on my Stinger when I forgot to turn the cruise on and then tried to set the speed.

I just brought my car in for the 5,000 miles service last week and asked the dealer to look into why I was getting the "Smart Cruise Conditions Not Met." It turned out that the front radar was out of calibration. They recalibrated it and everything is working just fine now.

I’ve seen this in 2 scenarios:

1) Attempting to resume when no previous speed has been set.

2) Foot on the brake when attempting to set.

3) Foot on the accelerator when attempting to set.

4) Car not moving over 20 mph when attempting to set.

5) Too close to the car in front of you when attempting to set.

6) Probably several other possibilities I haven't found yet.

Had this happen a week ago and read through this thread looking for ways to fix. Nothing worked (except switching every time over to regular CC) so I scheduled to take my car in this weekend. Over the past weekend it dawned on me that people had said to tap the brakes first before trying to engage SCC, but I also remember the old days of the mechanical parking brakes and not always completely disengaging. Although the Stinger's is electronic, perhaps it was being read as engaged somehow by the SCC. So I tried it this morning and SCC now works! Here's exactly what I did:

1. Pulled out of the driveway and drove down the block to the stop sign.
2. Put it in park and engaged the parking brake.
3. Put it in drive (seems to be the only way to disengage the ebrake)
4. Got on the road and above 20mph and engaged SCC.

That's strange. Pushing the button down while foot on the brake is supposed to disengage it. Might want to get that checked out.

I just bought my car on Monday, used SCC a few times, but unfortunately, by Thursday I was getting the "SCC conditions not met." I'm going to take it to my dealer next week and mention the front camera and radar calibration posts from above.

Can someone post how to use cruise control in the "non-smart" mode? I looked in the owners manual and I couldn't find it.

Set using the distance following button. Page 5-94 in my 2018 manual, immediately following the instructions on setting the sensitivity of the SCC. Titled 'To Convert to Cruise Control Mode'.

Thank you!

Not sure how I missed it, but sure enough it's in there. Page 5-97 for the 2019 owners manual.

Do you remember if this recalibration required any new parts? Were they able to do this while you waited? Or did they have to order parts and then you had to go back?

I'm taking mine in next week, and the dealer is an hour away from me so I just wanted to get an idea of whether I will need to return... Thanks.

I was on vacation the whole time they were servicing my car, but I don't think they ordered any new parts for the calibration of the radar. Here's what was written on my invoice when I picked up my car.

Cool. It looks like it was just a procedure performed (without needing new parts). Hopefully that will be my fix as well. Thanks very much for the detailed reply Devin!

I have been using my SCC everyday commuting to and from work 14 miles each way now that it's working properly, and I've noticed that I'm getting much better gas mileage with the car. It's a 2019 GT2, and I set it to custom mode with the engine and steering in sports mode and the suspension in comfort mode. I've been getting around 24 miles per gallon in stop and go traffic. Has anyone noticed a difference in better fuel efficiency when using SCC?

The only time I have gotten the conditions not met have been the result of having everything set and working. Stop somewhere for just a minute. Jump in and hit all the set-it-every-time buttons - seat(s) cooler, auto hold, cruise, etc. Take off down the road for a ways and failing to remember, it's been off, this is a new deal. Hit the resume and conditions not met. Grumble, grumble, try to think of what I didn't do. Then finally remember 5 minutes ago I was driving with it set to 50 mph, but this is a new start and I hadn't ever hit 'Set' at any speed, so it had nothing to resume to. After 2 or 3 of those, I remember to set it. And I find I am having better results where the previous speed is much more than I want now and I want it set to this speed - it's easier to just hit set, than hit resume and scroll down to the speed I want.

Just chiming in here that I also have this issue on a just purchased 2019 Premium, and SCC has never engaged once under any circumstances. Had a sales rep and a service rep drive the car to confirm that the issue was not user error (since they hadn't heard of anything like this), and they're currently running diagnostics on the car. Here's hoping a re-calibration will fix it, but just thought it would be helpful to confirm that it's not User Error in every case.

Thanks for posting DangLad. My car has been at the dealer since last week. I'm hoping they fix it soon so I can get my car back! Quick question: did you by any chance install a toll transponder in your windshield? The tech at my dealer was saying that Kia told him to remove any electronic add-ons if they are there (transponders, lojack, insurance company gps trackers, etc.) The only thing I added on mine was a toll (EZ-Pass) transponder. It seems like a long shot, but worth asking about.

My dealer is pretty far from me (45 min) so getting out there just to remove the transponder is out of reach. Plus, I'm hoping they tested that already...

Pkarandi and I actually chatted on the phone, thought it would be helpful to summarize it here. I literally picked up my car yesterday, and haven’t done anything to it, so it’s not a transponder issue. The dealership has had it all day and is at a loss for what’s causing it after running lots of diagnostics, and they’re getting me set up with a rental to drive home. I’ll keep y’all updated

Update: While I had a rocky beginning (was on-site for 5 hours while service center had no idea what was wrong), eventually they realized they needed to do the full recalibration, including re-seating the sensor properly and removing the bumper. I just picked up the car (Tues to Fri working time) and everything is working well. Good news: during the process I expressed my frustration with getting a new car that immediately needs a significant repair and the long-term risk to the kinetic chain and potential problems down the line. My dealership offered a free extended warranty as compensation, which I feel is completely fair and assuages my concerns.

The bumper admittedly doesn't line up 100% perfectly if you inspect it closely, as to be expected anytime you remove a panel and place it back. That being said, in the the end my dealership did a good job escalating the issue and getting the appropriate level of support and correction needed. Good luck to others that have this issue. Don't forget to mention this thread and the potential fix of re-seating the sensor and re-calibrating!
