Remote Start!

OK. Problem solved thanks to the Kia Stinger Owners Facebook group. I was holding the second button down instead of just clicking it. With the remote start fobs you hold the button down to get the car to start, but with the car fobs you just click it. Thanks all!!

Do you think the remote start is worth it? I'm kicking it around but if the car shuts off when the door opens that's a little ...

Don’t know yet. We’ve had very mild weather here. The first cold morning though, I am sure that I will be happy I have it.

Compustar just came out with one that works with the Stinger and does not shut off! Compustar DC3

i'm actually an installer and have done a handful of stingers so far. the compustar DC3 as well as any of there other systems can do full take over, your installer just needs to wire in a relay and a diode. I've noticed that there are a lot of young "new" installers that aren't very tech savvy and have no idea how a relay or diode even works. this is in part the reason compustar came out with T-harnesses. to make installs easier, faster, and most of the time more reliable but that's more due to installer not the product.

so if anyone else is looking to get a RS installed in there stinger here are a few tips you can tell your installer or ask them if they can do.

1st- compustar supports tach through data but it's kind of flaky so just hardwire it in the kick panel the first one I did has this issue.
2nd- if you want take over (meaning the car does not shut off when you open a door/truck) make sure the installer wires up the relay/diode for takeover.
3rd- 3X lock is supported so you have no need for extra remotes on this car. I know this can be a big deal for some people as they don't like extra fobs/keys/crap on their key ring, but they do improve range greatly. they also offer 2way remotes so you can get conformation.

I just got a Compustar system put in my car along with the Drone Mobile app. When it's cold out the car almost never starts up on the 1st try. It will attempt to turn over for about half a second, then just stop. After waiting the required minute to restart, it fires right up. Any ideas?

Sounds to me like the tach sense is not working correctly, just as Sconner mentioned above. Did you install yourself, or have a shop do it?

Do you guys know if the CompuStar system offers passive/automatic locking/arming when you walk away from the car with the factory key fob?

If you guys can hold off, we have something huge in the works coming in January for the Stinger market.

I am not here on the forums often, so won't have a ton of time to answer a bunch of questions here.

Email is better to reach out with any questions, but....

We will soon be releasing the CANBUS Control Module for the Kia Stinger.

Posted this in our Kia Stinger Facebook Group:

Just a heads up, the K8 Stinger Store will be releasing the Canbus Control Module (Remote Starter) for the 2018-2019 Kia Stinger, beginning 1st quarter of 2019. This will be a remote starter option using the original factory remote, but will also offer a bunch more really really neat features, all using the original keyfob. You can even unlock the doors and drive the car without the remote in an emergency situation. (With the programming code)

The DC3 does not require a relay or diode to work.. Already done about 5 stingers.
I agree on the tach.. First one I did tach was intermittent thru data.

I am confused about the compustar... Is it a plug and play item or is it one that requires hacking into the wiring harness? These posts seem to be conflicting. I guess I will just skip getting a remote if it requires chopping up the wiring... Have had horrible problems on another car from bad wiring.

yes it's called an EZ-GO, they are discontinued but i've been able to find a few floating around. i recently added one to my car and we happen to have an extra at our shop now. they are all newold stock now so if you order one be sure to replace the battery in the remote. it will have enough power to light up the led on the remote but not actually transmit a signal.

this is because the DC3 has the relay built into it, and i was speaking in general terms. all of compustar's other RS brain's (except maybe the HC line as i've never used one.) don't have the extra can H/L, or built in relay's that are programmable for other things, such as the wire you cut for take over in the DC3 guide. and as you should know most if not all of the outputs on the DC3 are diode isolated, and this is part of how they have such a versatile RS brain.

yeah move the tach wire.

this comes down to the car and support. compustar/idata offer a lot of T harnesses for many cars but not every car is supported. the stinger is one that doesn't have a T harness and probably wont, but this is just a guess as i don't have what their plans are. and as far as you having horrible problems in another car that probably comes from a bad install or product.

Just one question. This forum is full of posts from folks that have installed tge system that you just did. The only complaint is that the OEM following feature no longer workers. As such, when the remote is used to start the engine, the engine shuts off when you open the driver's door. Does yours work that way? Additionally, can you tell me where you bought your kit and what you paid. The kits are on Ebay but prices as per usual are all over the map.

Y'all said waiting for website updates @K8 Stinger Store. Where we at?

At this point though, I'm thinking I'm gonna go w a cellular remote start option like a compustar system. Tho I do love the idea of all the extras with this like sunroof and auto lock .

I don't mind that it shuts off when you open the door. My Soul didn't, but not a big deal to me. I imagine the primary use for r.s. is up north in cold weather, to let the interior warm up a little.

I'm in deep south Texas and my dog is absolutely crazy to go whenever I go somewhere. But I simply can't leave him in a car that will quickly go to 140ºF in the summer sun. I never found a way in my Soul to crack the windows a bit, leave the motor and A/C running, get out and lock the car to go do 10-15 minutes of shopping. The r.s. took care of that. Shut it off, get out, lock up then r.s. and he will be just fine and I carefully look at my watch and know exactly when I have to be finished or come back out and restart it.

Hey there. Sorry I am just responding. The OEM starter was bought from the K8 Stinger Store before Christmas. They don’t seem to carry them anymore. I don’t know the price because it was a gift. You can buy it from the dealer though I think.
