• PLEASE! It is VERY important that this area is not used for the discussion of technical issues with your Stinger. This section is for posting about regional-specific things like Stinger clubs, events, local vendor or dealer recommendations, KiaStinger.com member sightings, etcetera... In other words, I do NOT want people to need to scour through several different sections to find answers about their heads up display. That's why there's a section dedicated specifically to discussions like that. THANK YOU!

Car is only few months old, (GT) and having rather severe vibration issues under braking. Which is extremely disappointing as I got the impression this braking issue was only on USA imported cars due to poor pads , it would appear it's not just applicable to the USA market

Just wondering if anyone else having a problem in Australia and how KIA Australia handling the issue

search "bedding ceramic brake pads " , a few aggressive high speed to O stops should help ...............

I'm only aware of of one member who had rotors replaced under warranty. I was speaking with my Dealer this week and service advisor said only "a couple" of issues had arisen. I was also informed KIA has not put out a TSB.

Hi,
I have the same issue. The brakes only judder when they get warm...cold, they are fine. It is quite disconcerting though. The steering wheel vibrates like mad. I mentioned it at the last service and one of the techs came out for a drive but of course we couldn’t replicate the problem. I’ll be mentioning it again when it goes in for the next service.

Hi Guys new member recently picked up a stinger been going through forums because i'm also having serious vibrations under braking. Will be going in for a service in about a month. Wondering if you guys have been able to get it resolved somehow? or should i consider buy new brakes?
Thanks in advance

I found a technical Bulletin from Genesis regarding the brakes on the g70 (same brakes)

It gave a brake bed in process that was to be done by all dealerships before the owners even took delivery of a car, I performed this on mine and has eliminated 99% of the problem

My conclusion is that the ceramic pads that the Australian and US markets get are very susceptible to pad build up on the disc and must have a proper brake bedding in process performed

No issues here, 12500km old ... but please publish that bulletin link for us. Thanks.

Well only after about 2000 Ks my severe shuttering has come back, I'm just wondering, have we had anymore further feedback from KIA Australia on this subject, does anyone know what they are doing what this problem, or are they just pretending it doesn't exist

Spoke to Kia workshop foreman about the apparent brake problem and he confirmed that there had been some problems. Also said the build up on the discs is visible when you look at them. Had a look at mine and said they looked fine. I have not had any problems myself to date (5300 kms)

I don't suppose he mentioned what they were doing about the ones that were given problems

It’s well documented that it’s the OE pads causing the problem, Kia’s problem IMO is that they are not that experienced with “performance” brakes & only keep fixing a problem that is not solved, so it’s a “dog chasing it’s tail”.
I would suggest this to Kia, if possible get them to buy & fit aftermarket market pads eg: dba.
I’m running these with dba rotors with no issue at all.
If it solves the shudder issue it’s a win, win all round & a very economical fix for Kia.
I would insist that they try this as a starting point, what have you got to lose.
Here are the dba pad part numbers/details.

Are you running the sp's or xp's, and did you try them on the standard Rotor's at any time

I’m running xp on the front & sp on rears.
No only on dba rotors, all fitted at the same time.

My brakes vibrate when applied, almost sounds like bad bearings.
I purchased my Stinger new with only 23km, I'm very easy on the brakes, why would there be deposits on the disks causing these vibrations. I've driven 2500km only.
It's not really bad, but there's defiantly a distinct vibration caused by braking from speeds over 80kph

Hello there, just checking to see if you are still happy with the DBA pads by way of stopping brake judder as I have just had mine machined twice and am now replacing the rotors to start again and wanted to try new pads. Thanks.

Hi, I’m extremely happy with the dba pads, been in since January 2020 they are great, really positive & they will pull you up quickly when you need to jump on the pedal.

My GT is about to have it's 20,000km service at John McGrath KIA in Woden (Canberra).

Since 5,000km I have been getting a steering wheel shudder under braking - and at the 10,000km service they assured me that nothing was wrong, which was mighty frustrating.

I am going to tell them the same as before, that I am getting a shudder under braking -- but it comes and goes and varies in intensity. It seems to be worse when the brakes are warm, and to not do it when cold - but it doesn't do it all the time when hot - and I am not really ever doing any massive stops and am driving far more sensibly than a Stinger deserves too! Actually, I think it gets worse when driving around town slowly with the family in the car, and it may not be as bad when I drive with more spirit on my own - but I am still driving sensibly.

I can not see or feel any marks on the rotor itself... this is the only fault with such an awesome weapon of a vehicle!

This is good Q&A from dba which may help

The shuddering has come back to an extant but nowhere to what it was. I believe the only way to remove it permanently (once the OEM ceramic pads have melted on to the surface of the disc) is to either machine them (and pray) or simply put new rotors on and at the same time replace the pads.
I would use the DBA pads. My biggest mistake was in giving the OEM pads a try, in hindsight I should have swapped them out the minute I got home
