How To Convert Reverse lights to LED

The fuse seems to be one of those giant multi fuses. I pulled the little one in the driver hatch, but nothing changed. For the multi fuse in the engine bay, it says in the manual to disconnect the neg terminal of the battery and a couple other things before removing the multi fuse. I stopped at that point. I don't know enough about this stuff to start meddling.

I have to say I don’t know if it’s just cuz of the cold... but attempted tonight to try and take this off to replace the bulbs... broke a few clips on the covers towards the outside on both ends... they seem to click back in okay though and can’t seem to pry it out enough, thinking I’ll end up breaking it... plus I have Seibon duckbill, wondering if with it, it’ll be a bit harder to get at... thoughts?

Adding another LED bulb option - Lasfit has a shorter bulb that's barely any longer than the factory bulbs, but still very bright. Got mine from Amazon but later found them even cheaper on eBay.

Also, I had to really fight with the light bar to remove it. After taking off the six nuts and disconnecting the two connectors, I was able to easily get the ends of the light bar loose. However, the center of the light bar just wouldn't budge. I pulled about as hard as I could before I felt like it could break. I used firm, even force on both sides, but it just wasn't coming free.

There are two plastic clips in the center which hold it in place, and they're not accessible. I finally got it free. I held both ends of the light bar and pulled fairly hard, but rocked the light bar back and forth (more force on one side, then the other). Just thought I would mention this in case anyone else is struggling to get the light bar free and worried about damaging it.

Do you have a newer model? I know my 2018 GT2 did not have the two plastic clips you were referencing. Definitely interesting.

It’s a ‘19 GT2.

Hmm. My '19 GT1 doesn't have those clips, IIRC..

Interesting. My GT2 was built 4/2019.

Wish I would've taken a picture, but I'm not going to go through removal again unless I really need to.

There are two plastic rivets sticking out of the center section of the light bar, with two white plastic sockets in the liftgate. Hard to see, but visible in this guy's video at 5:26 and 8:52.

That came off way too easily lol fck I wonder if the seibon duckbill spoiler is causing me issues, or if it was maybe the cold too, wondering what kind of temps you were dealing with?

Not too cold - about 60 degrees in the garage. Perhaps it loosens up after the first removal, but it really did seem excessive.

Ok, I said this in the "other" forum, but I'll repeat the information here...

Do NOT pry on your light bar from the outside. I repeat, DO NOT pry on the light bar.

Instead, push on the studs from inside the deck lid. Those 6 studs you just removed the nuts from. Those, push on them. Not only do you get better leverage, but your light bar/paint will thank you.

Successfully upgraded my backup lights to LEDs this afternoon using the previously mentioned Auxito bulbs. Was much easier than expected thanks to this thread and this video:

The difference is very noticeable but the backup camera still leaves much to be desired. I suffered with a 2020 Chevy Malibu recently while my sunroof was replaced. That car’s backup camera was vastly superior.

everyone still very happy with their LED purchase ? not too bright ?

I installed them and never really thought about them again. So not thinking about them makes me happy!

The LEDs are definitely whiter and brighter and look much better against the taillights than the standard bulbs. Just don’t expect it to be a quantum leap in terms of using the backup camera at night. The bezels are too small and not angled so as to provide light for the camera. It’s too bad the license plate lights don’t point back and not just down. I think those lights are more responsible for the camera being dark at night.

I installed them so I would not have to replace a normal bulb in the future. One and done (I hope).

I’ve had mixed success with that theory on previous cars. Some last longer but some start flashing on and off an reseating them does not always fix the issue. I gave up and put halogens back in my wife’s rear license plate lights so she didn’t get a ticket.

I agree with above, in that it doesn't make any difference to the backup camera performance at night - which sucks.

The only reason I would change them is to get rid of the only non-LED bulbs on the vehicle. Not quite sure why they came that way to begin with.

there are different spot where ppl got them from. Anyone in Canada with a good link ?
