3.3TT DIY intakes w/Heat shielding drop about 0.2sec off 0-60

This seems so shockingly cheap/simple we might as well try! As a fan of dry filters over oiled, had a fitment question for those who have already toyed with sizing. The AEM 21-203DK is $52 and the 21-2036DK is $31. Without making the obvious "how much difference could an extra 1.375" make?" joke, that's a big price difference.

Would anybody know if the 2036 has clearance issues?

Funny you should ask. I have the 2036's enroute from Amazon. Should be here later this week. In Canada they're each $40 cheaper than any other AEM filter that could fit. I have the Spectre filters right now and they're 5.5" so these are only an inch longer. I think they'll fit in there snuggly.

Tired of the oiled filters. They get dirty so quickly so I wanted something dry flow and i'm also adding filter socks.

Are you attaching them to the stock pipe or adding anything to make them sit on the stock box?

I wouldn't do the taller filter. I was also looking at both of those filters. It's tight.

Will be following closely for updates. My Amazon history has the "you ordered this on ..." For the 203DK and it was $34. Other than bored quarantine mechanics, I don't see why the price went so far up. Also curious to see what orientation fits best/coolest. Pictures using a 5" in the stock airbox looked pretty snug already.

Im not using the stock box at all. Useless IMO. I have the elbows and heat shields with the filters pointed down.

I’ll update here when I get the new filters and attempt the install.

If you trim the drivers side heat shield it will fit straight downwards and leaves more space under the brace.

Gotcha. I decided not to use the 90 deg elbow. I had the Spectre elbow but it wasn't a smooth bend when I looked inside. Figured a more direct route would be better.

More direct gives you a better sound imo. I had 90s on them and moved to a straight 3 inch tube. It sounds slightly quieter, but less like it's gasping when you let off the gas.

Update. Amazon parcel with the filters didn’t arrive and they refunded me. I’m going to wait a couple weeks before reordering in case they show up.

Oof. The last item Amazon cancelled on us never showed up at all. Heard of pleasant surprises tho.
On a partially related note, also been looking at Askvig "Bigger Mouth" snorkels. With super open intakes like DIY or Injen, do people think it helps at all? I can definitely see the benefit with sealed systems.

I have the Velossa Tech ones. They keep my filters cool to the touch. The stock snorkels are ridiculous.

was this without any straight tube or elbows? looks OEM hose to spectre filter.
The tube going to the filter is OEM. You need a 3" diameter tube that's at least 2" long to connect the the stock piece to a cone filter.

3 in long 3" diameter spectre straight pipe. You just can't really see much of it. You could probably get away with attaching the filter directly to the OEM hose

Ah thank you. I ordered an AEM filter instead of Spectre. I can easily get a straight tube. Hopefully it comes with a coupler and clamps lol
