Help with hardwiring a dashcam.

Hello all! I am looking to hardwire a Blackvue dashcam to the drivers side fuse box. My questions.

1. Has anyone done this?

2. Exactly what type of fuses are spec for the Stinger?

3. I am looking for a correct fuse tap to tap the Blackvue into a constant on and into a powered on fuse on the drivers side fuse box pamel (the Blackvue requires 2 connections). Any links are greatly appreciated.

4. If you have hardwired a dashcam, which constant on and powered on fuses are best to connect to?

5. Would hardwiring a dashcam to the fuse panel cause any problems with the fuse relays in the Stinger?

I don't yet have a Stinger but I can give you some information from installing many dashcams in various vehicles.

Often there is both a permanent and switched power source in the overhead console. In those cases, I've tapped into them directly as the load from a dashcam is typically minimal compared to standard overhead lighting.

If not, I take advantage of the hole behind the console to allow me to feed a wire from there down to one of the A pillars, and behind the rubber seal. Be VERY careful working in that area because it contains an airbag in most vehicles. You can get down to the fuse box by utilizing the rubber seal along the door opening, and possibly switching to behind the dash structure along the way (or when you get to the bottom.)

As far as tapping into fuses, these guys are really handy, they allow you to use a different fuse rating for your "add on" circuit vs. the original. Pick something with a high rating, and use a small fuse for your needs.

Thanks for the info. I presume the fuses used in the Stinger are micro2 fuses. Couldn't find anything in the manual.

See my answers above, I have a BlackVue front only installed, hard wired, I had a mobile auto electrician recommended by my dealer who came to my home, took him no more than 15mins. If you fry the electric system due to ignorance/negligence you may as well throw the car away. Use a licenced guy to do the install, small price to pay for peace of mind.
Camera starts up at start & shuts down at ignition off, you can get a smart box to run constant without draining the battery. I hope this helps.

Got the Power Magic Pro for constant on. Think you are right about a licensef, insured installer. I don't want to take any chances.

I have the dual cam. Installed the rear camera on the front windshield, facing the cabin area.

I installed mine yesterday but I've installed mine near the "Advanced Smart Cruise Control" camera sensor, partially covering the bottom opening part. This morning driving to work, I've realized that the "Lane Departure Warning System" was "Active" less often. (It is active when you see the bolded left & right lanes and green steering wheel on your HUD)
Have you noticed this from your installation or did you not have any issues with where you mounted yours?

Another question I have is, does the Stinger not have any powered accessory outlets available when the engine is off?
In the front, there is a 12V cigarette socket and 2 x USB ports. When I tested each port with the engine off, only the center USB port had power.
In the rear, both 12V cigarette socket and the USB port had no power with the engine off.
Is there a way we can keep the power running on the 12V cigarette socket by flipping a switch or re-locating a fuse in the fuse box?
I'm trying to eliminate the hard-wiring process of dashcam on a leased vehicle.

Any inputs?

You may have to go to an auto accessories store or talk to an auto electrician about this, I am not qualified to advise you on your power options....sorry I cannot help.

I'd want to do that with my VIOFO A119S's I boiught for front and back. They came with a hardwire cable etc ... but I'm a bit worried the covers I'd have to take off break or don't go on properly again etc.

old thread but i just did this, got the thinkware f800 and hardwired it to the fuse box with micro 2 add a circuits to the door lock fuse for constant 12v and power outlet for acc power. i grounded the camera to a bolt under the petals, probably not the best place but its working for now and with needing hip surgery i aint going that low to the ground again to change it at the moment lol

Did you find that the acc power only comes on when the engine is started? The USB and cig outlets are in the engine bay.

Did you find that the acc power only comes on when the engine is started? The USB and cig outlets are in the engine bay.I have the Blackvue dual camera with a magic box.

I’m not sure what you are asking, I had an auto electrician fit this up, I’m not electrically savvy sorry.

Sorry! I worked out that the fuse for the USB and Cigarette outlet ate in the fuse box in the engine bay. The fuse under the steering wheel marked power outlet only comes om when the engine is running. I wanted to start my dashcam when I first push the start button into accessory mode. When does your cam power up?

My dash cam is wired into the fuse box inside under right hand side of the dash, camera starts when engine starts & stuts down when ignition is switched off.

If you are using an add a circuit, then you want to tap fuse that says "door lock" for constant 12v, "power outlet" for switched 12v, and ground to the nut on the lower left of the fuse box. I'm running a dual camera thinkware f750
