Help with hardwiring a dashcam.

I didnt wanna deal with any of this, just went with the battery pack, the camers has saved my ass at least twice now

Installed the BlackVue dual channel system. Mounted the camera behind the mirror and below the LKA camera. Mounted the rear camera on the read window, just below the rubber trim.

Routed the wiring under the rubber door trim and behind the headliner along the windshield.

For power, I used a VicoVation Battery Discharge Prevention Device to keep the 12VDC battery from discharging and not being able to start the car.

I then connected a 11,000 mAh rechargable battery. The battery will power the dashcam for up to 18 hours should should the Discharge Prevention Device activate.

I placed the battery in the glovebox. I mounted the discharge device under the driver's side dash, just above the accelerator pedal.

I used the 'power locks' for constant 12VDC and the 'Power Outlet' for the ACC connection. I used the fuse block bolt for the ground.

It took about an hour to install everything.

Mounted mine in the same place. Did you run the rear camera yet? Still need to do mine, but I suspect it's going to be a paint in the ass

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
I mounted a small pretty inexpensive camera I got as a Christmas gift the other day using this:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B072J3L2JN/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I fail to see how it would be possible to fry your electronics installing this, it ties into the fuse box and runs a secondary line via its own independently fuse protected 5A line. I tied into the interior lamp fuse... seems to always have a power feed to it, the kit has a voltage protection system which keeps the camera I have live for a few hours after I leave the car... there are camera units that will stay live all day with this setup.

I'm looking to upgrade to the thinkware F800 dual system:

just waiting to see peoples experience with installing rear cameras first though... I never want to be the first

I used the add a circuit fuse box taps as well. I've got a thinkware f750 dual camera setup. It has low voltage cut off settings so I didn't add a drain protector. I haven't run the rear camera yet. I think I might be able to get it run through the headliner then into the hatch through the grommet and channel into the hatch. Haven't been ambitious enough to try yet

it seems like SO much work... I'm just wondering if there is any real benefit to having a back camera... I have decided the location and all, seems to be the same path your taking, but I just haven't looked into the routing

It really wasn't too bad, installing the rear camera. I popped the plastic trim and threaded the video cable through and under the cross braces. Then, I jumped the cable from the very top right corner of the trim to the joint in the headliner. Yes, I have a small piece of the cable showing, but it is not notice and out of the way of getting snagged.

Then, I ran the cable down the headliner to the platic trim beside the rear seat. Tucked it under the plastic and worked my way to the door moulding. I lifted the door moulding and ran it in the channel to the front side of the rear door opening. From there, I went behind the plastic trim to get to the front passenger side door moulding. Again, ran in the door moulding channel until I got to the plastic trim joint that is beside the glove box. From there, all the wiring is behind the dash. The glove box easily removes by turning the two round cams on both side of the glove box liner.Except for the small jumper between the hatch and the cabin headliner, the cable is secure and hidden.

BTW, I did this same thing in my Model S and never had an issue. As a matter of fact, this is the same cabling and cameras from the Model S.

Yes, it is possible to pop the rear headliner and run the cable through the hatchback wiring harness opening. But, I did not want to go through the added effort.

has anyone noticed since adding a camera that the idle stop and go feature simply no longer works? seems like since i installed the camera the idle stop and go has only worked 2 days since, kinda weird

It didn't change anything with me... What did you use to hardwire?

Unfortunately, I wish that were the case with me. I hate the Auto Stop/Start. I have a dual camera solution and the Stop/Start lets me know everytime when I have not disabled it.

Just installed blackvue today and only did front so far. Folks that have installed the rear camera to back window, how did you rout the cable as it looks like it would be hanging out a little if you don't go through wire grommet in hatch.

Yes, I have mine exposed instead of going through the wire conduit. Lazy on my part, but it is out of the way and is not readily visible.

Took about 5 minutes to go through the grommet. Can't see the cable at all.

Use a plastic cable tie to guide/route the wire through the grommet or wherever you cant it to go. If your cable tie is long enough you won't even need to pull down the headliner.

Which model of BlackVue are you guys running?
Seen horror stories of the 900 memory cards corrupting ‍♂️ Maybe there has been a firmware patch released since then the resolve it ‍♂️

I have the DR650S-2CH. Buddy of mine gave it to me after using it for a while and he didn't mention any issues and seems to be working good so far.

DR650S 2CH here, too. Had it for almost three years. Was in my Tesla and then I moved it to the Stinger. No issues so far.

I have the BlackVue DR500GW-HD single channel since 2013 with no issues it’s still works well & I format the SD card every month or so.
