Numb nuts at an auto shop pinched my skirt . My regular guy that I've been going to for years got Covid and shut down his shop for two months. I needed an oil change so I took it to another "reputable" shop. I even told them to mind the jack points. I did a walk around when I picked up the car and due to the grime on the rocker panels from the filthy roads I missed it. My fault. I drove it directly from the shop to my garage and parked it. It was wayyyyy to cold and sloppy to wash the car so it sat for a month. Finally had a nice day to wash it and I spotted the damage. Shocker... the shop denies doing the damage. I took it to the best body shop in Chicago and talked to the owner ( he was very smitten by the Stinger BTW...called it a "very special car"). He says he can pull the rocker panel, hit it with a heat gun from the back and form it back into place and it should be 95% better...but not perfect. Lucky the paint is still in good shape. Quoted me 200 bucks. If it's still noticeable to me, I'll probably just put on some aftermarket side skirts to cover it. Sucks when you take so much time and care with a car and some dumbass messes it up. Should start doing my own changes from here on out. Here's the before pics and I'll post some after pics when I get it done on Thursday. Doesn't look that bad in the pics but trust me...I see it every time I look at the car.

Can I ask a question. Why not go to the dealership for an oil change? I get that Kia is not the highest in customer satisfaction but, if anything happens and you have a warranty issue, it would be no question.

I always wondered why people don't take their cars to the dealership for service if they are under warranty. I assume you are under 60k miles? Not judging, just trying to understand the reasoning by not going to the "best" choice for the oil change.

No, you're being positive, but that looks like crap, even in the pics. Dang. I hope that your fix works 95%, as quoted; that, being down low and all, would probably satisfy. Looking forward to the "after" pics.

Victim of the dented side skirts here (we should start a support group for this btw). The only reason I noticed it is because I saw on the forums/groups that this was an issue with quite a few other owners. Walked out to my car right after the oil change and they handed me the keys and I did the full walk around and came right back inside and showed them the damage. There was no denying it and they took it to a shop. By the estimate, it was $1500 to fix but not a dime came out of my pocket and it looks new. Decided not to take it to that dealership again and went to another and they flat out told me they couldn't lift the car without damaging it. 2 different Kia dealerships and they can't perform a simple oil change on a car THEY SELL.

So, to answer your question, I take my car to jiffy lube since they don't use lifts, give them the oil filter, full synthetic of my choice and pay them a couple bucks for the labor to do the oil change. Some dealerships overcharge for simple maintenance which is why some have the nickname "stealerships" but also, they can't deny engine warranty work if you have receipts showing every oil change performed.

WTH? At "my" dealership they've performed nine oil changes and had my car up a few more times to put on sway bars and under panels; Not a mark anywhere. Does my dealership have special lifts or something?

Not sure. My local shop that has done work on my stinger before said that they must not be using/adjusting the pucks on the lift properly. Luckily the warranty work that I have needed to get done had nothing to do with lifting or lowering the car. This wiring harness recall business is next on the list

It looks like Kia dealerships are a huge "swing or a miss" kinda deal it seems...

That bend looks pretty annoying! I actually got some nasty scrapes on my side skirt... oh well... I am still getting used to driving such a large vehicle lmfao! :p

Good points you made. I prefer to keep the guessing game out of my life as much as possible. I've run around the warranty ringer one too many times so that might be why I go to dealerships. That does suck it's happened to quite a few people on here.

I was hesitant to buy the Stinger just because of Kia's reputation, or lack there of. KIA of Dayton is where I take mine and it is sub-par when it comes to making me feel like my car is going to be taken care of. But again, if they hurt it, it's on their dime, and there's no denying answers if something goes wrong.

Man sorry to hear about the mishap. I've been there done that. At least the shop who messed mine up was honest enough to admit it and repaired it for me. I'm so anal about my car, that I decided to do my own maintenance and oil changes even though I can get the oil change for free. This is so I only go to the dealership/auto shops unless absolutely necessary. In fact, I just took mine last week to the dealership for state inspection and emission. Waiting at the dealership sitting there knowing they will jack the car felt like a life or death situation for me. You just don't know if your car will be in the same shape you brought it in. Call me paranoid, but I didn't spend 40k+ to buy a new car and spent another 7k-8k to protect the finish (paint correction, full car paint protection film and ceramic coat), just so an underpaid tech can treat your car carelessly then deny it when they break things. No sir! I will be raising hell.

Yeah it just boils down to the fact that I don’t trust them. To many horror stories from other people and my own bad experiences turned me off from bringing it to the dealership. Everything about the service feels budget to me and I’d stress out when I had to hand over my keys to them. I slipped up and went to another guy I didn’t know and trust and I got bit...can happen anywhere apparently.
Whether your at an independent mechanic or dealership, if you don’t notice the damage when you pick the car up chances are they’re not going to step up and repair it unfortunately. Mine was around 3 weeks later so forget it and I don’t necessarily blame them on that. They messed it up and I missed the damage when I picked up so and that’s on me. I have a great mechanic that I trust and I use for everything and he was just as disgusted when I showed it to him today. I make sure I keep all my receipts and document everything that way my warranty stays in tact. Hopefully you have good experiences with your dealer and don’t have to switch it up.

Agreed! It was very stressful for me as well. I jokingly likened it dropping my daughter off at a daycare with a bad reputation lol. All it takes is one careless act to ruin your day. Hopefully the shop that’s doing the repair does a great job or I’ll be looking at some side skirts to cover it. We’ll see.

I have to tryyyy and be positive or I’ll go nuts. Hopefully the shop gets me to that coveted “Merlin 6 foot rule” and I’ll be all good :) Going in on Thursday and we’ll see what’s what

So I haven’t seen anyone directly answer this question. How hard is it to repair a bent side skirt. Mine is bent similarly because people don’t know how to hack properly, and I don’t really care to trust a company to fix it

That's going to be a body shop question. I assume you could apply heat to the area and mold them back into shape but there is risk and skill involved that I know, at least for myself, I wouldn't even attempt. After the dealership screwed mine up, the body shop they sent me to just ordered new side skirts and paint matched.

Unfortunately this seems to be inevitable for all Stinger owners. Somewhere got my drivers side skirt as well but not nearly as bad as the OP. So many of the shops just have lifts with big rubber pads and assume it wont damage anything, but you really do need the pinch weld adapter to avoid it.

I've never had my stinger in the air anywhere but the dealer and they apparently know how to raise cars properly. there is no substitute for good luck. if I ever have to raise the car anywhere else I will be sure to warn them not to do this.

Yep! The same thing happened to me at Tires Plus! But I caught it right away, and they paid for the repair and rental car. It was over $1,700 in repairs!

Did you ever get side skirts? Same thing just happened to me

Most dealerships just don't care.
It's difficult to get a mechanic to care

The stinger side skirts are easy to damage when the hoist arms are not set correctly.
