Trim looks like crap

I pulled mine off and painted them gloss black (spray paint) looks better anyway and I figured it would just continue to be a problem. I actually tried wrapping a couple pieces but it just wasn't worth the hassle. the gloss spray paint is not perfect upon real close inspection, but I kind of just did it quickly. not eye catching at all. it just looks like the car was supposed to be that way.

Post some picks

pics as requested. the driver side doors are done in gloss vinyl wrap, but like I said, such a pain on such a small piece, that I tried gloss black spray paint on the rest of the pieces. Like an idiot I tried to paint them outside and there was a slight breeze resulting in some uneven gloss pon the two passenger side doors, which you can see if you inspect it at different light angles, but it's not so bad that I feel like redoing it. the two pieces on each side of the hatch were painted in the garage so they came out better.

Of course I removed them all during these various attempts... Pics:

Nice, looks good in pics. Mine is all black stinger and thought about going with a vinyl dark red of some sort or chrome red. Figure can always change the vinyl. When I brought the car home the day I bought it the protective black coating was still on. When I saw a corner coming up I said” shit the trim is peeling” then realized it was a protective vinyl. When I peeled it off my brother in law said he liked the black better. Haha

go for black. if you wrap it, take the pieces off. Using a razor around all the rubber edges would be bad I think. It's a pain to push it back in between the rubber once the wrap is on the trim piece, and it's hard to keep the vinyl wrapped around the piece too, since the trim piece is so thin. Light sanding and the krylon gloss black paint will be fine. several light coats to build it up...

The black looks better imo.

Something about the trim is a little "cheap", though. My passenger side quarter panel trim shows strange "water spot" staining, an extremely "swirled" finish (which is strange because outside of the touchless car wash and my own hands, nothing could have swirled it), and an overall lack of luster. Meanwhile, all the other pieces look their normal "matte" appearance. It's as if some pieces didn't get sealed/painted as well as others. I can't really explain it because I only notice it, but haven't really taken the time to analyze or remove the trim piece for closer inspection.

Having said that, the black chrome is also surprisingly thin and rather prone to waterspotting and other things. Quite strange that the best looking accents on the vehicle also respond the cheapest, lol
My 2019 Gt has always had touchless washes (many of them). Sometimes I have water spots on the black chrome but a detail spray or wax takes them out immediately.

Man, I do like that black, especially since I'm looking at blacking out the roof as well. Here's a pic of my trim, the car sat outside at the dealer for a few weeks while they fixed my sunroof rattle and when I got it back they were absolutely bleached, I couldn't believe it. They're replacing under warranty.

yikes! tell them to just give you the pieces, then you can take them home and spray them gloss black. Install yourself. super easy!

Good idea. They just snap in right?

yes. For the ones by the rear hatch, start at the very bottom pointy area, and just gently pry up. there's a series of snap clips that will give way. the last clip at the very top of that piece is different. it's a little plastic clip with a slide groove in it and it's hooked to a metal mushroom looking post. Essentially when you get to the end, the trim piece either slides towards the roof or to the back of the car just like a few mm's or so. I broke one of mine, and for that matter, a snap clip here or there. No matter, the rest of the clips hold it just fine. The door trim pieces basically are just held in between the rubber trim. Start at the B pillar, unhook the little overlapping part of the trim, then just slowly work them out. If the dealer just gives you the new pieces you will easily be able to see how they attach.

So I set up an appointment for an oil change and a couple things I need addressed. The email shows repair services: trim or moulding diagnosis, which I never mentioned to them, although I do have slight discoloration on one of the black chrome pieces by the rear window. One thing I noticed from the car being new is the black trim by the doors that appears to be slightly dented. Is the trim a service bulletin now?

They may know about it from past Stingers and likely get paid to do the work from Kia so maybe they are looking for some extra revenue? Just a guess. Service bulletins are usually only performed if brought up by a customer. Bulletins recognize an issue but aren’t required to be a recall in my experience.

funny you mention that. my dealer had an alignment machine in the little garage area where they check you in for service. some young kid just slapping the damn things on you wheels and seeing if it's out of alignment so they can recommend you have it fixed while there. I was like, please do not bother checking mine. I don't want those dirty rings touching my rims! you know trying to drive revenue!

Could be that the harsher chemicals from the touchless car wash, combined with the sunlight, deteriorated the thin smoke film that's on the chrome/polished trim. Yes, the trim is highly polished underneath, almost chrome looking.
Wrapping it will be your best option.
mine is doing the same. have let the dealership know and they are replacing it however i have found that the wiper blades are doing the same and the interior door rubber is starting to split.... not overly happy with this myself

Howdy and welcome, O discontented one (justifiably so, I hasten to add:P). So, point to each piece that is crapping out on you and get them all replaced. Hopefully that will be the end of it for a good, long while (I'm closing in on 40K miles and three years and haven't had a single bit of my car fail on me yet; so, your luck can change).

My trim pieces near the trunk were super oxidized looked really dull. Window ones were fine. Just hit it with some compound and polish and it came right out. If you zoom you Can tell from the pic where it’s clean versus non buffed section begins .We’ll see how long it lasts. At least it matches the windows now

A guy on this forum that used to own car washes cautioned against the touchless washes, because of the harshness of chemicals used.
I have been using touchless for 3 years on my Stinger GT totally without problems.

I can't say anything about the harshness of the chemicals but our 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee which was bought new, has only had touchless washes. The paint still looks amazing.
