Transmission cooler?

...you guys are going to make me crawl under car and look right? Cant someone with nice lift just look to see if there are already cooling lines coming out? If there are upgraded cooling would be good, but if not ...having to tap tranny case and setup cooler so it works well would be sort of a pain for a street car. I can think of so many other priorities for this car right now that this is way low on list. Ive done some very cool systems on my race cars both tranny and rear diff. But race cars generated a lot of heat that I had temp sensors to measure. Again Id love to see operating temps of our transmission. Our cars just don't seem to work that hard. Heck I have to push my Dodge Durango with big V8 lump real hard to get tranny over 200. Id be really surprised if the huge transmission in our cars gets very hot but hey don't know until someone taps case and puts a temp sensor in trans.

There is already a temp sensor on our trans. its just a matter of making making the data available to you by obd2 or other methods. There is some very good and small transmission coolers out there, i have one ready, but i need to makre sure igot the right measurements, pribably next week i will try and install, also i need to find out which is the cooling line lmao

It's common for there to be a small "trans cooler" portion of a car's radiator. I'm certain that's what's going on. But I'm happy to wait for a mechanic/tech/rep to completely confirm.

that is what i am thinking.

Curious why dash doesnt have a trans temp indicator? Or did I miss it? Guess I could get one of those blue tooth OBD2 readers and see if I can pull trans temp on to my cell phone if there is a sensor reading temp.

Not sure i use torque app and went through a bunch of sensors before findingthe right one, then again these apps could be reading incorrectly, so far seems good though

The car has an OEM trans cooler. you can see it behind the front grill just in front of the upper rad.
Nice catch, i should have been a lot more specific with theoriginal post, an auxiliary transmission cooler iswhat we need, i have 2 currently, justhave not had the time to test or measure anything.

Any progress on this? I ran the car hard on the Tail of the Dragon, shifting manually, and had the temp at or over 220 easily. When I came out of the mountains where it was 15 degrees hotter, the temp was well under 200. Since Kia's one-off 420's only mods was a trans cooler, this seems to be a real need!

I agree

That's the OEM cooler, yes?
The small black cool seen through the front grill is the transmission cooler. Next is the oil cooler and behind all that is the radiator.

I may be wrong about my picture. The radiator in the middle looks like it's the condenser for the AC. The little radiator is called an oil cooler but whether it's for the transmission or oil I'm not sure.

The article said that the trans cooler upgrade was a 6-row cooler. I can't tell from the photo which items in it are less than 6-row due to overlap or not recognizing what I am looking at. I would guess that the stock cooler would be 4 or 5 row (<6row).

How confident are you/we that this is the upgraded part? Do you/does anyone have reference to the original trans cooler part number?

Thanks!
That part number is the oem number. Not the upgrade. Still trying to find out where they got their part for the stinger GT 420.

Here is a pic from the repair manual. . . Cooling.webp

I think I know what they mean here. Certain regions got smaller trans coolers (5 row), the US got the bigger one (7 row). In my region we got the smaller one which puzzles me because it is extremely hot were I am. Anyways, I think they had the smaller one and just upgraded to the bigger one.
