Made some calls today to find out why the local oil places cant do the oil change on the Stinger. It turns out nobody is stocking the oil filter. Even our local Kia dealer only had 1 in stock. Of course he also has never had anything but Stingers with the four cylinder. Had to go 2 hours away to find my car.

The thread is not about what viscosity to use.
correction, (as the op btw) this thread is about what oil(s) one would prefer and use. And just fyi viscosity is all about oil and oil is all about viscosity and how well it performs or transversely breaks down. So take it with as many grains of salt that you wish, but you should be quiet and thought a fool then to post up and remove all doubt.

Just use the right oil, which works better than other oils. That's a right answer as well. Generalized answers are usually right but don't work that well. Pennzoil ultra generally being very good synthetic oil, I wouldn't use it in my case.

I do know how much viscosity of oil matters. With some oils different viscosity can dramatically change composition and certification. We can discuss if use should change oil or not as well.

I do not understand what you are saying here. Care to elaborate?

not a chance, I like my oil, stinger and thread in that order....mobil 1 btw.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
Mobil1 extended performance 5W30 for me.

Yeah, I think that was the consensus from the oil thread, it would be one of the better ones.. AND it would work for my wife's Town and Country minivan..

For turbo and direct injection motor, absolutely best oil (as long as viscosity matches your climate).

shit, I put it in my mower.......

I've used Penrite 10 Tenths oils for quite some time now (in my last three vehicles). 10 Tenths is a 100% PAO Ester oil (so not cracked from mineral oils like many "full synthetic" labelled oils).

I change oil (or at least have it tested - an oil tap makes this easy) every 5,000km. In my opinion, this is cheap insurance, particularly on modified turbocharged cars.

What weight will I run? Unsure. 5W30 would work fine, so would 10W40, and probably 20W50 (we rarely, if ever, get below 0°C here in Sydney), they're all acceptable based on Kia's requirements. I suspect I will go with 10W40.

Recommended is 5w30 in ACEA A5 spec. There's no point in using a thicker oil for a non track driven car

This is the oil chart in the manual I believe:

As I read that, I only need 5W-30 if I'm going to see temperatures below freezing. In Sydney, that's relatively unlikely - and from the chart, a 10W-x weight oil should be more than fine (from -15°C or so).

So, under those circumstances, wouldn't something like Penrite 10 Tenths 10W-40 be perfectly OK?

(That said, Penrite themselves recommend 5W-30...)

Check this out.

It's what I use and I'm very happy with it. I used it in my Sonata Turbo before I started using it in my Stinger.

Well covid got in the way of a lot in my life including the oil change....I used 0w-20 this time with a m1 filter.......used the same set up in our forte.......so I'm pretty satisfied with oil change(s).....('cept for the oil I spilled in the driveway.)...wifey didn't like taht.

Next week I'm planning to do the first oil change. For the first one, I splurged and got Motul 300v 5w30 power racing oil. I read a lot of good things about it, I hope they are all true!
