Actually, no - synthetic is not a KIA requirement for this engine per the owner's manual oil guidelines, though that is my preference as well. The Total oil in the engine as shipped from the factory is not a full synthetic either (according to Kia Canada).
I guess if you dont love you car, then by all means. Just because KIA gives you the bare minimum spec, doesnt mean you shouldnt put something better in there...
I tried VME when it first came out and after about 1000 miles - I noticed some improvement. The more I drove it - the better it got. It may have been a coincidence, but it sold me.
As their marketing claim is that it slows down the rate at with carbon deposits accumulate, I don't see how switching to their oil could improve on what has already been deposited.
Regardless of the brand, any oil still coming in through the PCV system or past the valve guide seals is only going to add to what is there. The only methods I'm aware of to clean existing intake deposits are either mechanical blasting, or application of a solvent/cleaner like Seafoam or CRC into the intake.
Fuel additives are obviously of no help at all, at least for cleaning the intakes/valves.

How much someone loves their car has nothing to do with it. Some will argue that with regular oil changes, conventional oil is perfectly fine for use with this engine. The manufacturer and warranty provider has not stated otherwise.
Without a directive or even recommendation to use synthetic, conventional or semi-synthetic oil is what many dealers, mechanics, oil change chains and consumers are going to be using with these cars.
I can't even fathom that Kia wouldn't use a full synthetic at the bare minimum for a turbocharged engine. The temperatures will cook conventional oil. Especially given the 10 year/100K drivetrain warranty.
Total makes conventional and semi-synthetic oils as well. I was told by the dealer's service department that the Stingers arrive from the factory with Total non-synthetic oil in it.
yes.. it's all on the site I linked. All of their Quartz products are synthetic. Their semi-syn and conventional are called "Classic"
It may be Total conventional oil from the factory. I was simply pointing out that Quartz (which is what they recommend in the manual) is synthetic. You implied it was not.

According to the December 2018 release that you linked, Total U.S.A is doing the same branding change - so the 'Total Quartz' recommendation you have in your 2019 OM applies to both their conventional and synthetic oils.
Maybe they'll rebrand it as 'LITERZ' outside of the U.S. ...
No wonder there's never any definitive answer to this age-old question.
I personally use Mobil 1, because it's cheap ($25 at Costco for 6 quarts/liters) and I know it's good. I picked up two cases (because I need 7l for the Stinger) and plan to do my first change this week, I'm at 3500 (miles) now, but not the filter - I change thru the dip stick tube. Undecided on whether to get a lube place to do the next one, for the filter, or crawl under there myself. Leaning towards just doing it myself.
Hi Gang,
This seems like a good place to post this question/issue. I just came back from a Valvoline oil changing place. They had to call the tech department and then told me they were not able to change the oil on my car (GT2 AWD). Has anyone else had this issue? If so who did you find to do the oil change?

I do it at Kia dealership, but there is nothing special about it. It's no rocket science. Did you ask them why they couldn't do it? There are no aftermarket filters out there, that might be the reason.

I'm befuddled on this one myself,....but then again I'll never let a (10 min. oil chnge place) touch anything I own.......you truly are taking a risk with that scenario
I had my first oil change this morning, and the dealership put in full synthetic Duramax. Never used them before on any of my other cars. Will have one more free one thru the dealership 5-6k from now, and will switch to Mobil 1, my typical go-to to my other cars in the past. I could consider something else depending on availability, but I've been happy with Mobil 1 in the past for my Prelude (for 20 years), MDX, Optima, and Sorento.

When vacuum cleaner vendors sell vacuums with "V-6", "Digital Engines" and Oxygen concentrator manufacturers sell concentrators that "make their own oxygen", I think we're pretty well past the point where anything, anyone says about their product should be totally ignored. {I imagine we're not supposed to get political in here, but I believe that goes double for politicians.}
