Sunset Yellow Discussion

After speaking with Billy and Linda multiple times, I am wondering if anyone else was offered the option to not repaint and just have the buyback or swap as their first option? Buyback at FULL contract price or swap with applicable credit from prior payments. I decided to wait and make a decision monday. The repaint can be done, but it doesn't have to be completed before the other options.

My dealer also reached out this week before confirmation of repaint choice with Linda and the team. They took delivery of another yellow this week as well. I am waiting to see how that one turns out before agreeing to use their in house body shop.
What dealer is it? I need my red Stinger repainted :(.

I am in the process of buy back. They wouldn't agree to a full respray (most of my chips are on the front bumper) so they moved me on to the next options. I have sent in my paperwork that they requested a couple weeks ago and got a note from Linda that she got all the required forms but haven't heard anything since.

That’s where my issue is as well. I requested a buyback as I am sure the paint issues, and clear signs of my paint failing, will be a major killer on resale value. I was told I’d hear back by Aug 3 and have heard nothing yet. But I wasn’t given any options, just made the request. So we’ll see what happens but I am not hopeful.

Yeah, they literally just said, "which option do you want." No hassle about which one I choose. However, I hadn't at the moment. I'm going to go for the buyback, and purchase a widebody 392 challenger to complement my "old version" hellcat. Lol.

The resale value scares me too. I was okay with the hit on the "Kia" brand, but with the added paint smack...no thanks.

I hear you. I actually requested a swap for a 2019, so not really a buyback. I am hoping they go for it.

I am curious to see what they say. And for the record, you don’t own a Sunset Yellow, correct?

Correct. I probably shouldn’t be posting in this thread...
I don’t know what the other members think, but I find your posts to be informative, even to the Yellow owners who have the Kia support already offered to us. Plus, I trust that owners of other colors, like yourself, are steadily reading all threads that concern paint. And while this isn’t a paint thread, per se, it is a thread where paint discussion will inevitably be posted, as the yellows have an issue across the board.

I have been working with SANDS KIA in Waddell...extreme west valley.

As stated in the main paint post, Sands did offer to cover the bumper flaking and PPF re-install. Nothing in writing, just verbal. Have not made a final decision yet as want to see the first one they paint.

I too am worried about resale in the future...even if i have all the paperwork to support the repair the "stigma" is still gonna be there.

Hoping you folks can help out. I found what appears to be a bubble in the driver side rear quarter panel. Is that a sign that the paint is about to flake? I also accidentally barely scratched the car right near the gas cap. Went all the way through to bare metal (never seen that before). I could then see how thin the layer of paint was. Quite shocking. Oh and my car is ceramic coated...

Got a pic of the bubble? I met another guy here in phoenix that had similar "soft bubbles" on his blue one.

that looks much smaller than i have seen. is it soft? i have a few spots on my yellow that appear to be debris of some sort that was on the panel when it was painted. They look like bubbles but are hard to the touch.

It is hard. But not sure if that’s because of the ceramic coating

Mine has been repainted, waiting for the okay from KIA. Reposting here as well as the original paint chip thread. The only worry so far is the fitment of the right front fender. Haven't seen it in person yet.

Looks better than another guy who posted his completed paint job on FB.. the bumpers yellow didn't match the metal paint at all, looked like the bumpers were 3 shades more towards the orange spectrum on his.

I dropped my Sunset Yellow GT off on August 15th, and they are STILL stripping it. I’m guessing that’s the longest process? How long should it take once the stripping is done to paint and let the paint set? Its taking longer than expected, they said 3 weeks tops, it’s now past 3 weeks and it’s not even fully stripped yet.

I’ve sent in all of the paperwork for the re-purchase option. I’m hoping I get a good enough chunk of change and get trade in cash, since I traded in for the stinger, to get into a ceramic silver GT2 with a red interior for the same or less than the Yellow GT.
