Sunset Yellow Discussion

10K and you're good with bald tires! I had to follow up with Linda and she contacted Consumer Affairs which is handling the buybacks and swaps. From that point it's been pretty straight forward. I'm now waiting for a turn-in date and check.

I'm at the same point. When did you send in the signed paperwork on yours? Mine was 8/21 and still waiting.

I uploaded a few pictures after my first wash after the repaint. Anyways I just wanted to point out a few things I noticed.
Picture 1: Just show the color transition from a distance.
Picture 2: This shows the difference in paint color between the fresh pant on the body panel versus the unpainted plastic. The dark wedge is the darker new paint. The difference is less noticable in the direct light, the darker the ambient lighting the more obvious the transition. My wife pointed it out while inspecting the paint. So it's noticable by a non-car enthusiast, some of you may be dissatisfied with your results.
Picture 3: Bath time
Picture 4: This shows how much orange peel there was compared to the new paint. Original paint is on the left.

The body shop said they would repaint the rest of the car for $1500. At this point I can't really think of another car that I would switch to that has all this car has to offer. So there is no good outcome. None of the other colors appeal to me and to me, they could be just as problematic.

So i'm missing something, are you unhappy with the paint that was done? Is KIA going to cover the rest of of the paint or are you just going to turn it back into KIA?

I'm only asking cause my car is at the shop now and i'm still weighing my choices. I already warned Valerie about this being an issue and i will fight for it to be done correctly.

I did mine on 8/27. I followed up today by email and phone.

I told them the beginning of last week I wanted the re-purchase option, both my rep and via the consumer affairs page...no one has responded, gonna make a call tomorrow.

Sent in all the paper work the week before that.

The paint that has orange peel is the original paint, not the other way around.
Yep, i mis read that and had the sides backwards.

Can you elaborate on "signed" paperwork? What was signed. I have turned in the sales contract, plus payment history, plus loan release form, but nothing that was actually signed? Is there a second letter or form that is signed saying i want the buyback?

Thanks!

Here's the document I was sent. Found out today that once you accept the buyback, you are moved to another department. It's now in final review.Offer Letter Pg 1.webpOffer Letter Pg 2.webp

Well that is much more the letter i would have expected the first go round. Really glad i submitted all the receipts into the portal. Glad to see they are waiving any mileage issues, especially since i purchased the car. I am not too thrilled to see that they will not cover GAP as purchased via my CU but maybe they will?? Or maybe i can get a refund for the prorata time from the CU on that one.

Thanks for posting, this letter is hugely helpful and clearly states which option and when. i also like that they clearly stated the decision point is Dec 1.

Cheers!

I financed through Kia and I will receive a refund on the GAP coverage through Kia Financial. If the loan through your CU is terminated early you should receive a refund on any prepaid GAP insurance. The the GAP is paid monthly and was not financed in the total, then you should receive that amount paid additionally each month. That could be some extra work on your part to get that back.

GAP with the CU was rolled into the total financed so hopefully its an easy return. I have other vehicles with them as well so fingers crossed. In the end, if KIA covers all else then i can stomach losing a few hundred on the GAP :)

A lot of people probably miss this because you have to ask. When you turn in, sell or trade a vehicle with prepaid GAP insurance or an extended warranty, the company, manufacturer or bank is required to return the unused/prorated portion of the insurance or warranty. For GAP, if you have an auto insurance company that offers GAP, it's generally a lot cheaper. Most only add a few dollars a month to the premium and then you drop it once the value exceeds your loan balance. Not all companies offer it so you're stuck with the dealer or lender in those cases. I would never go without GAP. I put down quite a bit on my car, but you are somewhat at the mercy of the insurance company in a situation where the vehicle is totaled. These days, they'll total vehicles simply for deployed airbags with very minor physical damage. IMHO

The "less prior loan balance" part... I had some negative equity on my trade, about 2k... are they going that out? Both leases. Or is this a non-issue?
My opinion would be that they would not be buying back previous negative equity...that was money owed by you PRIOR to the Stinger deal so i would assume you are still on the hook for that.

As a side opinion, it is usually not financially wise to bring negative equity into a new lease as you are essentially paying for two autos at the same time. The only way i could see this making sense is if you were looking to get a better interest rate or were able to get a deal that almost washed the negative equity with positive in the current...difficult to do but no impossible.

The amount represents either your negative or positive equity in the original deal. So that would either raise or lower your refund. You are still technically not out a dime in the entire transaction.

Just got the word from my local Kia Dealer that they will be towing my Stinger GT to a "Kia Dealer in Vineland NJ who is repainting several Yellow Stingers". The only dealer I can find in Vineland is RK Auto Group/Kia, and they have a collision auto body repair shop next to the Kia dealer. I was wondering if any other Yellow Stinger owner(s) havre taken their car their for repaint and how it looked when done? Hoping they do a great job.....

Finally got my beast back after 5 weeks. So far I have no complaints. It was signed off by the Kia regional manager out of Omaha Nebraska (I'm in Des Moines IA.) I'm still going over it before signing the paperwork to get the 5K. While there is a lot of complaints about bumper paint not matching body paint, the attached photo shows that the factory paint doesn't really match much either, IMHO20180917_194707.webp
