Snowshoes

I’m on the process of looking for a winter package now. I’ve read on other threads here that offset should be around +40 (18 inch with brembos). How flexible is this number?

Have anyone came across latest performance winter tires reviews? Currently Nokian Hakkapeliitta R3, Conti WinterContact TS 860 and Michelin Pilot Alpin 5 on a short list but I don't know which one to choose.

The Conti or Michelin are always safe choices for not-so-very-Notth. Nokian R3 you mention is a model designed for the very North and not really a performance tire. They do also make models like A4 and D4 with more of a perfirmance orientation.

St. Petersburg weather is somewhat unpredictable. It could be around +5 / -5 most of the winter or drop as low as -30 for a week or two. I'll take a look at Nokian A4 as well. Thanks!

Wheels arrived, I'm diggin them. I'm impressed with the tread depth on these IceX tires, they should last me a long time with the 60,000km warranty.

You took them back off for now, right?
If you look closely its not even installed on the car, i just had it sitting in front of the oem wheel. I wont swap out until late october or november.

I run Nokians on my Tacoma. I have been very happy with them. These in particular are an off road tire. I have approximately 12k miles on them. I have heard that the dedicated snow tires are phenomenal. 20180905_133317.webp

Nice look to these. I think I need to start my ordering process to get them ready for November.

I didn't look closely. It's so damned obvious! :D:confused:

I just ordered myself a set of Hakkapeliitta R3’s for my 19” stock rims.... had plans to do 18’s but my wife accidentally curbed the rims while getting a Starbucks. Literally the ONLY time she’s driven the stinger lol.

Can’t blame her. She’s used to a Honda Pilot.

These tires of which you speak: are they snow or A/Ss? Tire Rack does not carry Nokian.

They are an extremely aggressive set of winter tires. Pretty sure they have exclusive distribution contracts with a handful of vendors. They usually rate in the top 3 or at the top for most extreme weather tests.

Nokian | HAKKAPELIITTA R3 tires

So, you changed your mind about new 18s when your stock 19s got rashed and became "worthy" of being winter rims? :) Because that's sort of how I feel. If my rims were still pristine, going into winter on them would make me nervous. But since they are now scarred veterans, facing winter on them is no big deal.

I'm still back and forth with what tires I am going to settle on for winter. I am using my 19s that much is settled. Conti A/S? Now these tires you mention? What other winter tires besides the Pirellis are out there that will fit our staggered set up? And they have to be at least "W" rated.

Based on reading up on this, I'm hoping that the Fast Switch (direct fit model instead of competition) should be a little less fuss. I'm not looking for anything fancy in terms of rims for winter tires, more of something that just works.

Looks aside, would this be a reasonable direction to go? Likely put on some XIce tires with them.

Not sure what you mean by less fuss, but the FC04 style does come in two variants. The FC04A apparently requires machining to fit and the the FC04 (which I purchased) does not - it uses hub rings.

If you like the Switch better and they are a confirmed fit for the Stinger, then there should be no problem. As for differences, I see the load rating is higher on the F212/Switch so they may be heavier than the FC04, and the +35 offset will move the wheel slightly more inboard from the fenders than the +30 on the FC04.

Direct hub fit is always a bonus, mine came with centering rings which is works just fine too. My only concern with the Switch is whether it has been test fitted over the Brembo's or not. The FAST wheels I got were comfirmed to fit over the front brakes which I knew before ordering.

I can't beleive how light the winter package I got is, I'm going to have to take it easy with the car because I can see them spinning in the dry very easily, it's probably good I'm AWD.

I have ordered and received my Titanium Switch rims. Currently being coated for extra winter protection. I also have 4 TPMS sensors for under $100 total - Ebay from S Korea.
Soon I will be heading to Costco for either Bridgestone or Michelin winter tires to complete the package. Waiting on the Michelin promotion to be announced....

Would you be so kind to post up a link of the eBay seller you used for the TPMS?
