1) hardly any cops use radar, most have moved to laser. Yes I know that most detectors can detect laser but by then it's too late. It's locked on by that point and they got you.
2) if you do get pulled over and have a radar detector. Prepare to get the worst ticket that cop can give you. I've found if your repectful tell the cop you know you shouldn't have been going that fast you can get off with a warning or a ticket for over 9 over instead of 20 over. 9 over doesn't hit your driving record or insurance.
No radar detector for me....

2) Detectors are also not illegal in most states, so there would be no doomsday ticket for most people.

Uniden R3 + Waze.

R3 has saved me plenty times on deserted roads, or late nights where Wazers are far and few. Waze is amazing, but it needs active participants to update. A radar detector is always looking out. Yes, it's not very effective against laser, BUT, you don't have to worry about laser at night, bad weather, or cold. I've only seen laser used on nice sunny days by the fare weather 5-0. 90% of the time it's KA her in New England.

Laser at night is fun, because of what you stated. IDK who started the lie that you can't use it at night.... The limitations to laser lie in any real moisture because of refraction. Even your normal radar bands have difficulty with heavy fog, rain and snow.

Trust me, all these theories and tricks and techniques you guys are throwing around DON'T WORK against an officer running LIDAR. Outside of an active jammer, which are 100% illegal in the U.S. and WILL get you arrested, the only real way of beating the laser is observant driving of traffic up ahead so that you can slow down before you get into the optimal range of being targeted.

I don't know what you mean by "active" jammer but laser shifters to beat LIDAR are 100% legal in many states and they work, even against DragonEye LIDAR. Unless by "active" jammer you mean something else then you are categorically incorrect. You are incorrect across the entire conversation if you're trying to imply LIDAR jammers or shifters in general are illegal and that LIDAR can't be beat. In fact auto JTK under 4 seconds is becoming standard on the newest detectors and cops don't even know their beam is being shifted until they get a legal speed reading. Thank the power of GPS.

Sorry for the lengthy bump, just picked up a new detector, a Uniden R7, and found this thread by searching for some radar detector discussion. Anyone use this unit? I just placed my order tonight, so it'll be delivered on in a few days. Looking forward to getting this wired up, and seeing if my experiences match all the reviews this unit gets. I've owned radar detectors since 1988, since I could drive, and my current Escort 8500 X50 is a little long in the tooth, although it still works perfectly. Looking for some better coverage (both offensively and defensively) as I just moved to a state where detectors are not legal (which is horseshit).

I chose the R7 over the Valentine One (Gen 2) because while the V1 has bluetooth functionality with some nice features (but no GPS), the R7 has GPS (but no bluetooth). I use bluetooth audio in my car a lot of the time, so it was important to me to not have to have my phone tied to my detector while driving.

Anyone been using an R7, or a V1G2?
