PS573: Sound Settings (Fader) Moves To Rear

This was about 2 weeks ago.

I accept the delay now that I know there cannot be a software fix (or it would have been part of v.12.5). What I cannot accept is that some parts of KIA (Canada, e.g.) are still playing games pretending they don't know what this problem is or what is required to fix it. That is BS and they need to be called on it.

I just made a couple of 1,000 km trips over the holidays and this issue presented itself a few times when listening to the radio (but never when using Apple Carplay). Has anyone in Canada had success in getting this issue dealt with?

This has been an interesting read. I noticed a similar issue to what was being described here with my Stinger.. does anyone know if the software updates that are included with Map updates at www.kia-gpsmap.us can have any impact? I've reset my settings for sound which were reset after my map installation. I'll let you know if the 'snap back' on the sound balance occurs again. I'd really rather *not* have to have them put in a new head unit... I had to deal with that when my GPS on my 2012 Optima wasn't working. To show them what was wrong, I had to record a video with my phone camera showing that the GPS was showing me driving thru neighborhoods while I was driving south on I-405 in Washington State.

And THEN I had to tweet to Kia N/A to get the dealer to do anything about it.

I took mine in, they tried an update, and that didn't fix it. They are replacing the stereo on Monday (or maybe the it's the head unit, I'll ask when I drop it off).

I noticed I had much less problems with Sirius as opposed to regular radio.

Software updates won’t fix it.

You don’t need to prove the issue, just tell them it’s happening.

I wouldn't lose a lot of sleep on the head unit replacement. It solved the sound fading issue 100 percent for me, upgraded my head unit software to 12.5 in the process, precipitated no squeaks or rattles, and it looks/fits 100 percent like new.

I dropped my car off in the morning, had them look at a couple other things as well, and they were still done before noon.

does it count as your one free update?

They had already paid back in the spring for an update to the head unit the car came with, from 11.x to 12.0 (the latest version available at the time) as well as the maps. The replacement head unit came with the most recent 12.5 firmware - my map version stayed the same as it was, which I'm fine with. Maps aren't something I'll update very frequently.

Good to hear. I had mine to the local Kia dealer for an oil change this week and brought along a copy of the TSB from the US. The service manager said that this was news to him and that , so far as he knows, they can't do anything about it right now, but was going to check into is some more. I actually do feel fairly confident that I'll get it taken care of due to my relationship with the dealer's ownership group, but it sounds like it may take a number of Canadians complaining before it gets done without a struggle.

Yep, it's as though they are all trained with the same message: never heard of it. Don't know what to do about it. Even after multiple complaints. Hyundai/KIA have been doing this is Canada for literally decades. Identical cars to US (besides the minimal regulatory changes), but somehow Canadian cars are immune from the recalls or issues that are already acknowledged and being worked on in the US. This includes safety recalls, too, because Transport Canada is a toothless agency that mostly serves the interests of industry, not consumers.

If it is not "training," then it is a complete lack of communication. Either way, not good.

You need to get KIA Canada involved , call their 1 800 # and be prepared to be on hold , demand a file get opened to deal with your issues , the dealers are a waste of time on moving these issues into resolution.

That you don't need to prove the issue. Reading this thread reveals that many dealers, and KIA itself depending on who you get to deal with, are not accepting verbal confirmation as the only trigger for this very expensive fix.

If you read the TSB, it specifically says it doesn’t need to be reproduced.

If your dealer can’t read a TSB that’s more of an issue with your dealer than the TSB. Mine had no issue ordering the radio from my comments.

Brought mine in, they tried to fix it one way, then said it didn't work so they ordered what they needed and it will be fixed tomorrow (along with fixing the wiring harness issue

So your dealer doesn’t know how to read a TSB.

They didn't try to replicate it. They knew they would have to fix it. There was none of this, 'we need/tried to replicate it and we couldn't' stuff.

They read the Pit Stop (not actually a TSB). I don't begrudge them trying a different way to fix it since my car was in for other things as well and it didn't take much time. They have been awesome for me and have always up front about everything and eager to please.

The TSB that was issued is from KIA America, and only applies to U.S. cars. There is no TSB for this issue in Canada, and the Canadian dealers can't do anything without either replicating the issue, or getting the OK to proceed from Kia Canada.

The TSB does not exist in Canada, despite our cars coming from the same factory at the same time...
