PS573: Sound Settings (Fader) Moves To Rear

I have the fader problem, but with a different twist, mine moves to the front, it has happened several times. I am now keeping a closer look so I can tell the dealer what I think, we all know how that will turn out, but got to try, has anyone else had their fader move to the frt. or am I the only one ? The only thing I recall when it happens is when I have used the Navigation to guide me to a location.

Is your default setting the middle or biased toward the rear? I have only heard of it moving back from centre, but maybe your settings combined with use pattern triggers a different issue?

Just tell them it’s fading to the rear and they will order you a new HU, they don’t have to replicate the problem.

I set it one click to the rear, and it goes full front.

I just took mine in for fading to the back (have never had it fade to front) They have ordered me a new head unit and will be replacing it. Said it will take a week to get here.

Great, I am gonna call the dealer tomorrow, hope they take care of me.

A quick update. Finally got a scheduled time slot for my dealer to take a look at some issues on Friday December 7. Scheduked a week ago so it's gonna be a while. One issue being the fader issue. Praying they can update the software instead of taking out the dash .

Good luck, but so far the only solution I've seen that is proven to work for this is to replace the head unit.

It took some back and forth with KIA Canada and the dealer to accomplish it, but they've finally got a new HU on order for my car. The sticking point is that the KIA SB issued for this in the U.S. is not applicable in Canada, so unless they can reproduce the issue the dealer can't do anything without KC's approval.

Good luck and keep us apprised of how you make out. What are the other issues you are having them look at, and how many KMs on the car?

I hope a check of the software would do it. I am okay with my days. No rattles lmao. Did you ask them to flash it?

My issue appeared to 'go away' for several weeks as well - but then came back. As they came up with the very costly solution of replacing the HU for this, it's got to be a hardware issue - and an intermittent one at that. You can check the firmware version on the HU to see if its been updated.

Thanks .I'm glad you're finally getting yours fixed. I am able to replicate the issue everytime I make a call even if I am not reversing where the audio then tones down. I will replicate it in front of them and hopefully a software flash will do it instead of a total replacement. Biggest worry is from the pictures the other user posted with them not covering the seats and leaving tools on it and the chance that rattles will occur .

Its been months since it did this , and it used to do it frequently ....................we'll see

That's great that you can reproduce it. While mine 'usually' happens following a phone call, I've never been able to reproduce it on demand, even immediately after it occurred using the same conditions, duration of call, etc. - and believe me I've tried. Unfortunately others have reported the latest 12.5 HU firmware didn't fix the issue, but maybe you'll get lucky like @westcoastGT.

On the HU replacement concerns, the first thing my dealer does before the car leaves the 'check-in' bays for the service department is cover the seats with plastic - they have a roll of it there specifically for that purpose. I've had it in three times now (including service one), and it's always come back spotless.

Others who've had the HU replaced haven't reported any issues with squeaks, etc. - I'll just have to trust them to disassemble/reassemble that portion of the dash professionally, per their service guide. My car is currently as quiet as any I've ever had, and I'd like to keep it that way ... :)

Mine does it more often when using the the bluetooth radio and coming off of a call. Dealer already flashed it and it started doing it again. I plan to take it in at the same time my 30k service is done january.

I think it's pretty clear that it is hardware-related from both the myriad comments here plus KIA's response. AFTER the latest software update that includes new Bluetooth functionality, they began authorizing head unit replacements in the USA. This is for a problem that was identified on this forum almost within days of the car being released. The delay to acknowledge and then address the problem was excessive--but surely due to them trying to find a software solution instead of the insanely complicated and expensive hardware replacement that we now know is required.

I accept the delay now that I know there cannot be a software fix (or it would have been part of v.12.5). What I cannot accept is that some parts of KIA (Canada, e.g.) are still playing games pretending they don't know what this problem is or what is required to fix it. That is BS and they need to be called on it.

I agree , but I think too many owners believe that the dealers are communicating these issues with HO , I think some do and the rest bury it . It is critical that when problems occur that owners call KIA US or CANADA and file complaints . When enough pressure is exerted there , action will happen ..........

How long did it take you guys to get a replacement? I opened my case with customer service 10-18-18 and yesterday they put the order in but do not have an ETA it could take a few weeks or months I’m not sure any idea?? I was told it’s backed ordered and they still can’t fix the hatch noise.

I took mine to the dealer for the fader issue, they ordered it and it took a week and a day..had it installed the next day, so 9 days total for me.
