PS573: Sound Settings (Fader) Moves To Rear

Another shitty problem to have!

I have noticed the change but doesn't bother me too much. I would rather not have the dealer take apart the entire dash. Just another problem to add to the list with the paint issues and rear hatch rattle and hopefully, maybe, get it all fixed at the same time one day.

Anybody took their car to the dealership recently for this issue? I took mine today and was told the unit is on back order and ETA is unknown. If you took yours recently did you get the same response from your service advisor?

Finally got mine replaced today. Everything went well, no damages to the finish, no rattles and the software was updated from v.87 to v.98.

Was the entire head unit replaced or was it a software patch?

Took car in Monday, received call today from service department that a replacement head unit would be ordered.

Just got my car back from an oil change and I mentioned this issue and that there is a TSB for it. They said they couldn’t replicate the problem, and that they “performed a system update” and that their tech who had the same problem in his stinger said it cured his. Still have old sw version.

We will see.

Just had the head unit replaced, the pit stop service does not mention software fix only replacement of head unit. I have not experienced any fader issues with new unit.

Ask them what was updated, assuming it doesn't show on the service invoice and it wasn't the UVO software (because you said it is still the same version). And let us know the next time the fader issues occurs.

Its been a little over two months since I had mine replaced and have not experienced the issue again.

Once it happens again I’ll give them a call and ask what was updated. I’m sure I can get it to happen again soon as it was 3+ times a day on average before.

My radio was replaced a week or so ago and so far has fixed the issue and appears to be the v12.5 OS, I guess. I see folks stating the Dealer could have updated the software but my dealership stated they cannot ever update the software, as they don't have the means. It would go along with what folks are stating here in other threads about the system firmware or OS update is tied to the Nav update you have to purchase.

IDK, I am confused like the rest who believe a software only update should have resolved the issue. I will state, the swap out fixed most, if not all, of the dash rattles :)

Mine is scheduled to go in for this problem on Tuesday. This must be only on the HK system as I never had this problem on the GT w 9 speaker system. Hoping that the replacement unit will have the 12.5 on it and updated maps.

KIA has chosen to not give the dealers the means. We already know from our own experimentation it is as easy as pie to update the UVO UI and leave the maps as they were. This is willful ignorance or worse--a scam to sell unnecessary map updates. I say unnecessary because even the latest maps version is consistently woefully out of date (compared to Google or Waze). I have no doubt that many if not most customers would choose to ignore the paid map updates and would just want the UI update once they weigh the cost-benefit of using phone-based nav or realizing that the maps are not really up-to-date even when brand new/latest version.

To me this is a customer service fiasco that needs to be called-out and not accepted.

Have you had any luck? I think I am experiencing the fader issue. Picked up my vehicle last week but build date is 04/18 with older software. I wonder how Canadian dealers are dealing with it. I might even have a rattle in the liftgate when I break hard.

My dealer is investigating now. Based on the horror stories here, I asked them to get the ball rolling on KIA Canada approval, since we have no equivalent to PS573 in Canada (!?!?!?!?!?!?!). I told them honestly I am not sure whether I actually want the dash ripped apart or not, but let's get the bureaucratic BS out of the way in case I decide to do it. Mostly it's just to submit another in the string of requests from Canadians so it is even more obvious when they are lying or obfuscating that they have never heard of this problem. We on this thread know better.

The liftgate rattle is a known problem with a known solution, but if it only occurs on braking then it is more likely something loose is shifting under the trunk floor or something. The prevalent liftgate rattle happens when you would expect rattles to occur--over bumps.

Just track the fader issue for a while--it's easy to confirm. Make sure your fader is set to the centre, where most people leave it. If you hear something odd, and you are not in reverse, just check the fader setting. If it magically moved to the rear by itself, you have the problem. Usually happens related to phone calls for most people, but I don't think anyone really knows every possible cause. As soon as you confirm it, let your dealer know and KIA Canada. Don't be surprised if both act surprised or bewildered. Ignorance will help them save a lot of money in head unit swaps--an expensive part and a very expensive procedure to replace.

Mine has done it a few times and is going in tomorrow for them to take care of. mine has indeed happened after a bluetooth phone call, and has also happened when using Android Auto and receiving and sending text messages.

Dam. This is what I hate for us up in Canada. When TSBs or other warnings come out for the states we are usually the last to get them and it takes a while for it to even be a problem. I have to test mine out and play with the bluetooth and reversing to see if that triggers it. I did have it go to the back at random times and did not notice until it sounded a bit off. Taking out the dash is what worries me. Rattles and such would depend on the workmanship of the individuals doing it along with trying to protect the seats.

Yes I will check under the trunk but from what I remember everything was in place. I have yet to go over bumps or potholes because I literally avoid/dodge them as best as I can lol.

The fader moving to the rear "randomly" means you have the problem.

I have the fader problem, but with a different twist, mine moves to the front, it has happened several times. I am now keeping a closer look so I can tell the dealer what I think, we all know how that will turn out, but got to try, has anyone else had their fader move to the frt. or am I the only one ? The only thing I recall when it happens is when I have used the Navigation to guide me to a location.
