PRESSERtech Kia Stinger GT Dyno RESULTS!!

I'm glad I didn't take your tires off your hands.... I think I'm going to be calling Pressertech fairly soon.

Glad it worked out so well for you.

Although this wasn't what I wanted my tune for, here is an added benefit: improved fuel economy.

This portion of my commute, in comfort mode, was consistently between 29.0 and 30.0 before the tune. Not only do you get better performance, especially in Sport mode, but better mpgs and added power in Comfort mode.

Sounds great, I'm assuming your commute is mostly hwy, what was your cruising speed? Any drive ability issues at part throttle? Has the throttle response changed? From the factory, it felt like there was a built in delay between throttle application and actual engine response that isn't turbo lag related, the delay is eliminated/reduced in sport mode.

Commute is 2/3rds highway and 1/3 surface streets. Zero drivability issues. Much improved throttle/engine response even in comfort mode. No lag in sport mode.

I need to find out if Pressertech found a source for spare ECUs!

Yes, you should give them a call. I know this much, each ECU is paired to a specific vehicle. If the ECU doesn't have the correct VIN within its programming, it will minimally through a check engine light. That may cause an issue for sourcing spare ECU's. Whether the code is one that can be wiped clean, I can't comment on.

A new ECU is over $1,000 through the dealer. Then a dealer would have to program it to your VIN, of which KIA will have a record of. Just an FYI.

Yeah, I know where you're coming from. Work Motorsports initially had the spare ECU priced on their website at $550, and now it's up to $1000 on their website. Inflation?

I was hoping that a tuner could copy the files from the OEM ECU onto the spare ECU, tune the spare ECU so when installed, no error codes. Swap the tuned ECU for the OEM ECU when going to the dealer for service, so they are none the wiser.

Sorry we have been quiet. We have been hard at work trying to source these ecus. As of right now we are still looking and have feelers out all around the globe to get to source. We were in Germany a couple weeks ago looking for sources on these with no luck. We did however unlock all firmware versions of the software!

We absolutely can make your spare ecu the tuned ecu. This is excatly how we do it for our clients that want peace of mind. Also, keep in mind, a kia dealer is a franchise and it is in their best interest to push warranty claims through, not void a warranty. Yes, they can void a warranty, but HIGHLY unlikely they would. We can also say we have NEVER had a warranty voided because of our tunes. The spare ecu is good if your deeply concerned about this but in our opinion it is not necessary. Our phone # is 770.648.0500 if you want to talk to us more about this. -Todd

I understand your point. I just thought that if I could manage a spare ECU with few headaches and not too much extra money, it might be worth pursuing that venue. Unfortunately, it seems as if that's becoming really complicated, really fast!

It looks more and more like I"ll be sending you my OEM ECU for tuning. I've done that on multiple vehicles in the past, and never had any problems whatsoever.

Keep in mind these guys have been tuning performance luxury brands for quite some time, and have a reputation to maintain. I've not been over there yet, but from pics I've seen, it seems their parking spaces would make for a pretty impressive car show just about every day. So soon now, I can almost taste it....

@PRESSERtech LLC the only example we have on this site is your tune on a stock stinger by sending in the ecu. How would you tune to accommodate a car with bolt ons like intakes downpipes and exhaust?

Bump on Socalstinga's question above. I have CAI installed, downpipes with secondary cat delete OTW, and a cat back exhaust purchase planned.

The really cool thing
The dyno won't really tell you much without knowing your baseline numbers but there's a performance shop called Special Vehicle Services near you.

There's a few others in your area but I just posted the first one that Google revealed.

Yes, I've contacted all of them. None have an AWD dyno machine. However, there are two trade colleges in El Paso that have the AWD dyno machines. I am attempting to either rent one or have my Stinger used in a class demonstration.....

Although it is true the the dyno won't tell me exact gains without my own baseline, if my tuned dyno shows 450+ HP & TQ, then I know I am well above factory claims and I will be happy with the quantified ROI. I am already thrilled with the qualified ROI.

This car is SOOOO much crazy fun now! There is so much TQ that my drift and squawk abilities are AWESOME!!!

I talked with Scott earlier. Looks like I'm going to be picking up the AWD. So you're saying the added TQ allows for a little tail action?

Any chance you can take a video of a 0-60, or whatever you are comfortable with?

I'll see if I can figure out a way to do that. An injury from my Army days left my left hand with minimal functionality from nerve damage. This makes it challenging to take pictures/videos and drive or do anything else at the same time.

Mac, best not try then. Just enjoy in good health!
