Dealer Markup Ourisman Kia - Chantilly, Virginia

Sorta off topic, but not too much, if you have the time, this is a really good listen: 129 Cars - This American Life
I happened to listen to it 1 week after my husband and I bought our 2014 Dodge Ram 1500. Wish I had listened to it before...

A bit O.T. here, but it's worth telling, I guess.

Many years ago a friend of mine who buys used cars went to a Cadillac dealer in K.C. and wanted to test drive a used Ford Taurus. They got his car to evaluate for trade-in and when he returned from the test drive, he decided he didn't want the Ford. They wouldn't give him his keys back to his own car. After about 15 minutes of argument over his own car keys, my friend had to get on the phone (which they didn't want to give him -- before the days of cell phones) and call the police to obtain his keys so he could go home. Needless to say, he never went back to that dealership which is (I think) still in business in K.C.
Exactly whay I did when they stonewalled me on returning my keys except I told them I was going to call the Sheriff.

i will chime in here and say Tyler is one of the best if not the best to deal with at Chantilly. When i was looking for a yellow he kept in touch with me to let me know when it was coming, even let me know that he was going on vacation. Unfortunately i did not buy from them as they only got a GT2, which is not what i was looking for.
Enjoy being a cherleader for Chantilly KIA?

No, I like being a cheerleader for an individual who was nothing but honest and helpful. Even though I didn't buy from Chantilly.
It’s all good Q, some people take it too heart when you can’t make a deal with the store. Even if people don’t buy from my store I always check in too make sure that they love their KIA, and check in with the individual just for good conversations. Everyone has a different opinion on everything. Thank you Q again, and stay in touch my friend

I didn't end up dealing with Ourisman, but I can vouch as well for Tyler. He is the most informative sales person I've met. When I test drove the car, he showed me all the features... including the hidden feature on the multimedia screen to make it retract. Like I said before, everybody have different experiences when they go to a dealership, but there are certain individuals like Tyler from Ourisman, Carlos from Fairfax, Lucas and Jason from Muncie who stands out among the rest. These people are honest sales guys and If you combine all of them, in one dealership....well, you end up with a dream team hahaha.

I’ll vouch for Tyler as well, great sales person. I’ll also add that my buddy’s wife who dislike the KIA badge (they have an Optima and he swapped the badges) didn’t even want to check it out but after stopping in and hearing about it from Tyler, she’s now a fan of the car. From all the info written on dealerships, we can say laces that folks had a bad experience at isn’t due to the business itself but the people they dealt with and some is a top down people issue. If all dealers would move away from the old sales model and focus more on educating people on their product to build the value, while working a comfortable price, they might do better.

I went to a Subaru dealer with a friend and once they found a vehicle they liked, they were offered a price well enough below MSRP before they started negotiating that they bought there as other places didn’t want to budge off the MSRP. Reminded me of what Honda places were doing in the 90s (in NY anyways), yeah they have a good product but their sales folks were cocky and didn’t want to entertain any discounts as folks were buying at and above sticker, they said. People who don’t check the web for prices or do no research at all tend to get taken. It’s unfortunate this still occurs but it does.

Hold up, the screen can retract into the dash? Am I reading that right?

Ease up bud, Tyler is a good kid. For a young 20 something kid he has become the top sales guy at this shop in a short period of time. As evidenced by the folks here that have met him, he is a likable individual. You might come to the same conclusion if you met him. He is very knowledgeable on the products he sells, is personable, treats his customer with respect and is a good person.

We understand you had a bad experience at the dealer, as you know not everyone at a particular company is a bad person, cut the kid some slack.
