I wonder how wise that is. If the flex pipe bursts it's burning the car down, and the problem area is very hard to inspect. And even if you could, I don't know how much visual warning you'd get before catastrophic failure.
It's a very rare issue, and statistically you're probably right to avoid gambling your car with the kia service shop. But if it DOES fail, how will the writeoff be handled if you refused the recall service?
