JB4 Dyno Results 5/30/19

Pretty light gains compared to what BMS posts on their site for stock (327whp) and map 2 with intake (416whp).

Were you expecting something else from an otherwise stock car?

Refer to Terry’s post above and evaluate the differences between dyno types. Add 10-12% for dynojet.

Numbers aren't bad for a load dyno

I wasn't really looking at the numbers, more looking at the gains.

I was blown away by the torque and how underrated it is from the factory. I expected some gains but certainly not nearly 100 lb/ft all early in the power band.

Just looks like gains on their dyno runs were HUGE compared to what you're seeing.

I ran my stock car (with BMS intake) on a dyno dynamics a few weeks ago and made 301whp. I heading back in a couple weeks with my JB4 installed now. Hope to see some good results.

map 1 to map 2 were done too closely together, but 2 to 3 were almost 50 minutes apart, that should have been enough cool down time.

Doel The wifey drove to the grocery store and back...maybe 3 miles total..... 2 hrs later I decided to take off the air cleaners I had installed and make some changes...couldn't even get close...still smoking hot under there ! I can imagine how hot it was on the dyno....Whew !:)Wash

Dyno numbers don't mean nothing to me...........

Ask me what my car puts out ...I will say 11.9 Bic#hes!!!!

Line me up! Numbers on the dyno mean nothing, one thing I know for sure is that the JB4 works and that Map 5 is the best map for E30/Higher octane fuel at the track.

Good for you!

I don’t track or race.

I can appreciate that a sub-12 quarter is good though.

Hopefully, we can keep this thread on topic moving forward. If we’re not discussing the OP, differences between dyno systems, power under the curve, or testing the differences among maps we’re veering off the path.

I started sweating from the 15 secs I was in there to catch one of the Map3 runs.

The baseline is solid (and at dynojet levels) and the gains on the intake are as expected. The jb4 20-25 hp seems very low. Maybe it will adapt and improve over time. Maybe get some dragy 0-60s or 1/8 miles and see how its performing out of the hot garage.

Why do I see you popping up in every JB4 support thread with disingenuous advice? Aren't there any Tork threads you can go hang out in? :)

I didn't provide any advice. Just wondering why the gains are so low. Blitz's jb4 car got faster after several weeks, started off in the 12.7s
Shouldn't you be busy reading logs and helping your customers? On FB a jb4 intake awd car just got smoked by a generic ecu tune intake awd car by .4 seconds in the quarter same track same day. (12.5 vs 12.9) That guy probably has 20-25 hp gains as well and needs your help.

Rest assured we have several tuners here, myself included, reviewing logs and helping our customers run as fast as they can.

Updates or not, until the recommendation is updated I have no reason to run it. And given the fact that he made 7whp more on Map5, I didn’t see a need to run it on an otherwise stock car.

Maybe next time if I upgrade the intercooler to drop those IATs.

I agree, blindly going up in maps is not a winning strategy. You'd need to look at the detailed logs, see that everything is good and that the logs indicate the car wants more boost, before exceeding the minimum map guide suggestions. In this case we don't have the data from the dyno runs to analyze so difficult to speculate as to whether the numbers are normal or low for the conditions and what could be done to improve them.

It did pickup ~65whp at 4000rpm so I don't think there is any big issue here. Maybe timing pull due to heat soak. Just can't know for sure without the data from the runs.

Totally agree. Addressing the vacuum leak caused by the failed check valves on the ADD W1 v3.3 catch can would be a start.

oh you have a vacuum leak? well that makes more sense.

Well that didn’t emerge until the last dyno pull. It wouldn’t impact the earlier pulls.

I hit the dyno today and here's how we performed:
2019 GT1 RWD
The car went into the facility around 10:30am, and naturally, as the day progressed the temperatures increased.
Ambient Temp: 86 degrees Fahrenheit, roughly 100 in the dyno facility.
Elevation: 305ft
Fuel: 93 octane (Exxon) for maps 0, 1, and 2; ~E30 Map 3 (I did not test the mixture. I added 5 gallons of E85 to about 10.5 gallons of Exxon 93)
AFR: Will seem a little leaner due to using the Dyno's tailpipe sniffer and my exhaust being stock.
Previous "Mods": ADD W1 Dual Inlet Catch Can
Dyno: Dyno Dynamics (No correction factor was applied)

If you want to correct for your local Dynojet, add about 10-12% to these numbers.

Next up, I had the HKS M45iL spark plugs installed. JB4 was also installed, OBDII and fuel wires connected

First I have to say this is some awesome information. Thank you for taking the time and resources for gathering this and putting it together.
I was taking a look at it more closely though and had some questions about the data and what it's showing.

First the Baseline.
All other dynos pull all the way to the 6250 rpm, but the baseline stops closer to the 6000 rpm. Why?
Peak HP appears around 5600 rpm on this baseline dyno.

Baseline
343hp
395ft/lb

Now with the Stillen Intake was installed, the Dyno claims the HP is 356.1HP in writing, yet the HP curve never goes above the 350 HP line. How is that possible?
At 5600 rpm, the HP looks to be more like 345 hp & 393 ft/lbs, which is about the same as the Baseline
upload_2019-11-26_12-34-22.webp

Lastly with the Stillen + HKS Plugs (Map0 - deactivated stock map), the 358 hp spike seems to be a random upswing right after 6250 rpm (remember the baseline run didn't even get that high). Is that really real? If you go back to the 5600 rpm max power region it only looks like it makes ~345hp again.

So after taking away that weird upswing, (and without overlaying the baseline to the Stillen), I don't really see any HP gains with it. Am I missing something?

Perhaps just more throttle response and no larger gains to be had until a tune/tuning box I assume?

You read it right no gains. But intakes are weird, the take some time to adapt and show gains. 5 + hard pulls.
We did a stock air box no airbox and had no gains and did the no airbox pull again fairly big gains.
