I was looking at Tire Rack today to see what a set of new tires is going to cost me when the time comes. I searched by Model, 2018 Stinger GT and the list of tires came up. I then sorted by customer rating. The price alone makes this a no-brainer when the second highest rated tire is literally half the price of the first rated tire.

If that isn't enough for you, here is some more information. In the Asian markets, the Indy 500 tire is branded the Bridgestone Potenza Adrenalin RE003 and is rated highly there. Having driven the Firestone Indy 500s on my last car (Lexus ISF), I preferred them over the Michelin PSS that many drove before the PS4S came out.

Lastly, It seems Michelin may be having some cold-weather issues with their PS4S. Many have stated, on other forums, that below 45 degrees F the tires are downright scary because of low traction. If the cracking shown in the photos is the PS4S, then they won't be going back on my car even if they were free. Similar issues have been reported with Pirelli tires in cold climates. I never had any cold weather issues with my Bridgestone summer compound tires (S-04s and Indy 500s) that prevented driving in temps above 30 degrees.

There really are some amazing tires on the market today, tires with grip that were only availible on race compounds with a 30k mile warranty. Ps4s, still takes the cake in terms of all around performer, but if you're willing to give up some marginal performance or refinement, there are several tires that are significantly cheaper. The Firestone indy 500, conti extreme contact sport are just a few examples.

Though on the flip side, if someone told me 10 years ago, I'd be considering a Firestone tire, I'd probably have backhanded myself upside the head:unsure::D:D

With the switch from the PSS in the Lexus, I feel I gave up little if anything. The Indy's performed better when hot, when the Michelins got a "greasy" and slippery feel. I feel the Indys wore more evenly across the width of the tire as well. The Michelins seemed to wear the shoulder quicker. (Both of which could have been made worse by over driving a 4000lb sedan like a Civic Type R) Lastly, the Michelins lost a lot of their initial performance toward the end of their life while the Bridgestones seem to perform right up until I took them off of the car. Both were low noise and good in the rain.

As for buying Firestone, I wouldn't worry, this isn't a Ford Explorer. :D

We're being nit picking, the pss is over a decade old and at the time of launch it was revolutionary. The ps4s takes care of most of the mentioned issues. In the mean time, other top competitors have also closed the gap significantly...

I'm still waiting for hover cars:cool::cool::D:rofl:
