The original oil is not conventional. Your Stinger comes with, and Kia recommends using, "Total Quartz INEO HKS" which is a synthetic. This is the website for it. The page from the owner's manual recommending that specific oil is attached as well.

Interesting, my dealership gives free oil changes but they use Mobile 1

I haven't checked with mine, so I don't know what synthetic they use. If I'm not using Total, I would prefer Mobil 1. I've used that exclusively on the Prelude for the entire life of that car (going on 20 years).

I figure I'd do a poll on oil changes. :) I'm going back and forth as I just crossed 1500 miles on my Stinger. So, when did you do your first oil change and why?
I did a break-in oil change at 1000 miles and switched to full synthetic (even though it's not necessary). I use synth in all my vehicles.

After that, it's every 6000 miles.

If you bought your Stinger new, you took delivery of it with full synthetic oil. The oil that Kia recommends in the owners manual is a full synthetic oil. It is the oil my dealer uses for changes. Total Quartz INEO HKS.

That may be true for 2019s, but there is no mention of Total Quartz for the 18s and it is only "recommended". ILSAC GF-4 is the only requirement to maintain the warranty.

So, had my first oil change early (as I planned) at 2068 miles. Dealership put in Duramax (full synthetic). Will use up my other free oil change in another 5-6k or so, then will switch to Mobil 1 or something else at that point.

Correct. The first couple of thousand miles usually throws up some small metal shavings and the like. I am nearing 2K miles and should probably get an oil change. Plus, I have my foot in it half the time.

That's why there is an oil filter. It's there to catch those impurities. Seeing as how the manual makes no mention of break-in oil or the need to change it before the first service interval, i'm sticking to the prescribed intervals and doing the changes myself with full synthetic. No point dropping 6.9L of perfectly good synthetic motor oil at 1,000 miles.

^^^Good to know! I've heard good things about that brand. My first two oil and filter changes and tire rotations are free per the dealer, so I'm going to make sure they are putting in that oil. After that, I will use that oil when I DIY change my oil/filter.
if you have a staggered set up you can't rotate tires ??

Mine aren't staggered. :) I didn't rotate them anyways, saving that for another day when I've put down more mileage.

Really? Perhaps i'm not on top of things with the US trim levels but I thought all GT1's came with the 19" wheels? My understanding is that these are always staggered with 225 tires up front and 255's in the rear. Hence why we can't rotate the tires.

Or have you swapped them for an aftermarket square setup?

^^^In the US, depending on what part of the country you're at, dealerships may have on the lot either the 19" summer tire staggered setup, or the 18" all-season tire square setup...the latter is more common in the midwest where I'm at (snow, ice and whatnot). Without realizing (which is my fault), I bought my GT1 AWD with the 18" all-seasons. I was too glossy eyed at my Stinger that I neglected to check that detail. If I had to do it all over again, I would've searched for the 19" summer version. So because of that, I'm speed limited to 130mph. :( A tuning would get around that later, but that's a bummer.
