Has anyone done any successful sound proofing/deadening to the trunk area?

I used Dynamat on the doors, hatch/spare tire area, and under the rear seats. I don't remember how much I used though.

I also used a layer of Dynaliner for under the spare tire cover.

Awesome! Did you get under the battery or is that where you stopped?

Also, for the Dynaliner under the spare tire cover. Did you put it on the molded piece that goes directly on top of the tire or on the underside of the actual flat trunk floor piece?

How difficult was it to take out the back seats?

I didn't do under the battery. The Dynaliner is under the actual trunk liner. That back seats weren't hard to remove at all.

How much would you say it reduced the sound?

The car was already pretty quiet. I did it to enhance the performance of the sound system and to give it a more solid/luxury-like feel. It was a success on both fronts.

Yes, done it and there was a improvement in the noise reduction.

Stock exhaust?

I find a couple of dead bodies stuffed in the back does the trick. Trouble is you have to get fresh ones every few days. Lol:cool:
Seriously Ozstung did the sound mat to stop the muffler drone and it seemed to work. There is thread somewhere that has pics.

Let’s see if we can get @Ozstung in here for comment.

Thermal +SSR mids

Is it pretty obvious when you get in there how to remove the back seat, or is there some type of guide as to how to do it?

I bet some additional insulation on the bottom of the rear cargo cover would go a long way. Try driving with and without the rear cargo cover. It's quite a big difference in road noise.

It isn't difficult. IIRC it's one bolt for each seat and then they slide out in 2 pieces.

Interesting, I do have a good amount of Dynamat in storage from prior audio builds. Maybe I should slap some on the Stinger.

I did as Kamaux did, Dynamatted floor+ Dynalinered (6mm/1/4") the underneath of the boot (trunk ) floor lid. It got rid of 90% of the reverberation and 60-70% of the drone . Well pleased.
Well pleased.

I am planning to do this for under rear seats and trunk/spare tire area. So I put dynamat everywhere on metal and then I put Dynaliner on top of it? Or just the trunk gets Dynaliner? How much do I need of each? I can find Dynmat in package of 12 sqft, 20sqft and 36 sqft on Amazon. How thick Dynaliner did you use? I can fin 1/8, 1/4 and 1/2 inch 12 sq ft packs on Amazon.

Dynamat.com | Dynaliner for Automotive Use

"Dynaliner is the most effective automotive lightweight thermal insulator available, and perfect to use on top of Dynamat Xtreme."

dynaliner_chart_web.png

I have been on their website. It seems like Dynamat reduces noise and vibration. And Dynaliner is supposed to reduce heat and low frequency hums from engines and exhaust systems. So I kinda need both?

Edit: I think it comes sound damping (eliminate structure borne noise) vs sound barriers (stop noise transmission). So it comes down to what noise is coming from the trunk.

Pretty fascinating video

You asked if you put the Dynaliner on top of the Dynamat. Their site says it's perfect for installation over top of Dynamat Xtreme, so I'd assume the answer to that question is "yes".

You asked what thickness - they suggest the thickest that fits, and give some examples in that table.

One of the reasons I chose Focal BAM XXL (bam XXXL - Focal) is because it includes two layers - effectively the equivalent to Dynamat Xtreme's heavy base (and foil lining) and a closed-cell foam top layer that is the equivalent of the Dynaliner, all in a single product. It's not cheap, but it's effective.

Sorry I read your previous posts but did not read your name (did not match your last post with previous ones). You have much better idea than me. I just started exploring.

I was asking for thickness because if I fit both 1/2 inch thick sheets, I would end up at 1 inch total thickness. So was just trying to get an idea what can fit till it's an issue (may be to put spare in).

BAM XXL looks interesting. Can find it for 340 for 2 square meter (slightly more than 32 square feet). 32 square meter of Dynaliner + Dynamat combo would cost me 340. LUXURY LINER PRO from second skin (that would cost me $240) looks something similar (or is just barrier) but doesn't have adhesive and I assume won't be as good (as BAM XXL).

Is there something similar (to BAM XXL) that's cheaper?

PS: I don't listen to loud music, so I won't be creating vibration through sound system (if that's relevant).

We all start somewhere. :)

There's nothing special about me that's led to me knowing what I know - I've learned it over the years through exposure to various vehicle enthusiast groups (Nissan, Suzuki, Subaru, Volkswagen/VAG group, Subaru again, now Kia/Stinger). I have a natural interest in automotive topics (I'm just wired that way), so I've picked up a lot - but that's taken, let me see, I got my first Nissan when I was 19, and now... it's been over 20 years. :)

If the Dynamat Xtreme is /12" thick, then you'll need to work out the thickest Dynaliner that will fit on top of it without compromising your ability to do things like load your spare wheel. Be aware that the Dynaliner is quite compressable - a spare wheel will compress it very flat even if you choose the thickest option. Without having a Stinger yet - how much space is there between the top of the spare wheel/tyre combo and the boot/trunk floor when it's sitting in place?

If you can get a cutoff of some, you can probably test with that!

I'm not familar with the Luxury Liner Pro - but you certainly want something self adhesive, you don't want to be gluing stuff in manually.

When do do install the self-adhesive products, really make sure you follow the installation instructions - you want your installation surface REALLY clean, and you really want to get a roller for installation to press down on the product to ensure good adhesion - it won't work if it's not securely fastened to the surface you're trying to reduce sound transfer from/through.

Is there something similar (to BAM XXL) that's cheaper?

Not sure. I chose it as a premium product (it was recommended to me by my preferred car audio installer).

PS: I don't listen to loud music, so I won't be creating vibration through sound system (if that's relevant).

Good sound insulation mean you can listen to your music softer - you get less background noise. A quiet car interior is really nice, irrespective of your music listening habits - sure, damping panel vibration helps when listening loud as well (because it stops unwanted vibrations and sound reflections), but almost any car can benefit from good sound damping (as long as you're willing to accept the weight penalty - I wouldn't do it in a dedicated track car!).
