Front license plate and brackets

I wanted to get more info on the intercooler concerns. Apparently, someone actually measured this; albeit not on a Stinger, but they found losses in both hp and torque.

APR PSA: Is Your License Plate Robbing Horsepower? - VWVortex

This doesn't surprise me at all, but I think the losses from the Sly Bracket would be negligible as compared to the factory plate. I installed mine recently, and temporarily mounted the factory plate bracket behind the Sly Bracket to compare. I tried to take some pics from a couple of angles to best show the positioning: top row is level with plate, bottom row is an upward angle from closer to ground-level; right side shows only the Sly mount, left side shows the factory bracket right behind it. Sure, it's lower than factory, but the difference is minimal...

This photo shows that the bracket also tilts the plate slightly inward toward the lower edge...

I ended up mounting with just the minimum/default spacers, but I did first test adding the smaller of the two extra spacers, which I found to extend the plate out too far. Mounting shot, followed by comparison shot: top has extra spacer, bottom is final, default depth (no contact w/bumper)...

How about zip tying the plate to the grill? Would that work?

If you have watched those FLIR dyno videos, you should be very concerned about the intercooler if you're flogging your car, say, up a winding mountain pass. I'm much more interested in a tow-hook application. That thing is going to need as much airflow as it can get. (I would imagine the same applies to hot climates like AZ and the like)

I'm in CO, and front plates are required...but I really really don't want to drill the bumper. (I do see the pilot divots there, but the dealer did not do this part of the prep...likely because it was a rush order and shipped from AZ). Has anyone confirmed the tow-hook application linked much earlier in thread?

I think I'll just give it a shot...Amazon and I have a long, loving relationship of purchases and returns. ;)

Decided to buy a foot of heavy duty (10 lbs test) Velcro at a craft store. I put a 10" x 2" strip on the back of the plate about 3/4" from the top of the plate and a 2" x 2" piece below, centered. This baby is going nowhere; no penetration of the bumper; and cost about $4.00.

So, on a whim, I ordered the
Dewhel JDM Front Bumper Tow Hook License Plate Mount Bracket Holder Tow Hole Adapter (for Infiniti 14-16 Q50)

From Amazon, $23 and Prime eligible. It *does* work, in that it fits fine. It's a bit tricky to get all the little fiddly bits together, but once I figured out to mount the post, then mount the plate, then screw the hole assembly in, it worked fine. I have not started the car yet (forgot to take my key down to the garage), so I still don't know if it interferes with the parking sensor. It's going to be close, I think. Also, using the farthest left offset (while looking at the nose of the car) it sticks out far enough to be a hazard to anyone walking close enough to the front of the car and that doesn't happen to see it. (I did that offset because I didn't want to block the intercooler). I *could bend the assembly and plate to move it in a bit closer, but then I wouldn't be able to screw in (or out) the towhook adapter, which would mean removing the plate and backplate to unscrew the towhook portion....and would make it *very* difficult to remount. Those little locknuts and short stubby screws are very difficult to get to and work with.

I'll report back with pics and sensor findings later. If it does mess with the sensor, I'm going to return it and find a cheaper velcro/ziptie method of center-install. Maybe just four long zipties.

Well, no sense posting pics. It blocks the parking sensor. I'll be returning it. I actually have some velcro cable ties that might just work, without using sticky adhesive on the finish.

FTR, yes you can turn off the parking sensor...no biggie there, but I *do* use it when pulling into my garage. The other problem is just how far out it sticks...I'm sure I'd end up cutting my shin on the edge of the plate at some point.

I purchased a similar tow hook license plate as Frennzy did.

No Hole Tow Hook License Plate Mount For Hyundai Genesis Coupe

The standard holes for the mount triggered the front sensor, but I noticed that when I screwed it into the license plate hole at the far upper edge, it was fine. Took the plate to an auto shop, and they drilled a hole on the same horizontal plane as the license plate hole, but closer to the center. Tried it on the car and it worked without a problem. The downside though is that I lose the ability to contour the plate to the curve of the car, so I'll probably look for a replacement once a better option becomes available.

Posting pics of the trial and error process I had. Once I get my plates from the dealer, I'll post the finished product for reference.

Just ordered this off Amazon. Fits great and supports the entire license plate. Ive had trouble in the past with plate frames that do not extend all the way to the sides of the plate. The plate will get bent over time (or very quickly in a car wash).

Installed and is not in the way of the parking sensors. No issues so far.View attachment 6910
I actually used my tow hook from my genesis but the stupid front sensor would keep going off no matter where i moved it. Your telling me this one does not interfere with your sensors?

Here's where I ended up - the Sly bracket plus this additional bracket which wraps and stiffens the plate so I could position it on the bumper instead of in the intercooler grill. Not perfect, but it works for me and doesn't block the parking sensors.

Whats wrong with Velcro?

Man, you keep bringing that up, so I'll take a stab at an answer: Nothing is wrong with Velco, if that's your preference, and nothing is wrong with mounting a bracket, if that's someone else's preference.
