What's the recommendation for when to get my first oil change (mileage)? Out of factory is it full synthetic with the turbo engine? Just got my stinger last week and want to make sure I take care of this car to the max! Thanks for any help!

The mileage is anywhere between 3K and 6K per oil change. The Kia dealership calls you in for less than 6K miles if your car is in a "harsh" or "severe" climate. I go in every 4K miles because we are a "harsh" climate (which is every 4K to 5K miles). I trust that Kia dealerships put the same kind of oil in that came with the car. And as far as I know it is synthetic.

Kia requires employees to change first at 3k then every 5k afterwards. I plan on following that recommendation.

Keep it 6000 miles as per the manual, stealarships would like you to change every day if you can (They are there to make money). Given how good quality oils you can get, I wouldn't worry.

Get a Penzzoil platinum ultra or Mobil1 Extended performance, best oils you can get and change it locally by paying labor somewhere. I don't trust the oil dealership would put in there.

If you trust your dealership enough to buy the car from them, I think that the oil they put in should be good to go.

I don't trust them, I buy from them because no one else can sell them.
Well, that is a problem. How about all your other warranty service? Going out of the area for that? If so, might as well do your oil changes the same way. Unless you do your own oil changes. If you have some other mechanic that you do trust, I see your warranty as problematic.

I don't trust any dealarship to charge fairly and to use good oil. That's why I buy my own oil and filter after extensive research, best out there, then pay labor somewhere to get it changed.

Few things they are really good at like timing belt changes for few engines as they have done it 100 times. So in warranty I would go there because its free and for few issue they might be better than others.

If you're buying the oil, just change it yourself. Very simple to do. I do this with all my long term vehicles and some leases.

I have been paying 10 dollars for labor. Did not have access to garage lately. So just did that.

Will start doing my own soon.

I did an oil change once by driving the passenger side up on a curb. This was in front of my house though...

$10 is cheap but you still have trust issues if they are putting the right oil in.o_O

I have 2 jack stands, so I should be able to do it, I did do the brakes few times, abs sensor. With last oil change, I was getting new tires so I just asked them to do it. I do oil changes every 10k (around 6-8 months for me). Other times I did that when I was in for free tire rotation. $10 for an oil change and tire rotation is not so bad, plus either way I am getting a best oil and filter there is.

Not too bd a deal if you cant do it yourself or hate the mess!

Some dealers are shady, some aren't. Some have techs skilled enough to do most work but not high level work. Some hire the best techs for high end work and not for oil changes. In the end they are independent shops and need to be vetted before you trust them.

With that being said go with the manual and change at 6K miles unless you are in an absolute no joke "Severe Service" area.

You can always do it yourself, but make sure you document with your receipts and pictures so there is no way Kia can wiggle out of a warranty claim...

I did my first change at 500 miles. I know that's really early and probably overkill and the filter is supposed to catch those small particles from break-in. I always just play it safe with a new engine. After that, I do service at the owners manual recommended intervals.

With this car, I settled on every 5k miles. Longer than the severe interval but a little early to compensate for some more spirited driving and the stop-and-go city traffic. I buy my own oil, Pennzoil Ultra Platinum, and supply it for a change at the dealership so there's a record of service in case there are any warranty issues down the road.

For direct injection engines, there's some evidence that low noack oil can help reduce carbon build up. I also ordered some catch cans that I'm waiting for to install for this issue as well. YMMV with this but given that this is the last car I plan to buy for a long while I once again am trying to play it safe.

After some reading done yesterday, I am planning to do the first oil change at 1,0000 miles then next ones on (multiples of 6) x 1000 miles.

I think given the quality of Pennzoil ultra/Mobil1 EP (GF-5 vs Kia recommended GF-4) I wouldn't worry till 6k miles even with spirited driving.

But 5k seems alright as well.

How much does dealer charges for tire rotation and oil change labor?

Oil catch can sound like a good idea since I saw few videos where Engineering explained and savagegesse recommended it with explaining how they are useful. I trust them so I will get one too. Which one did you order?

You are very thoughtful of your car. Wish it last you long good years.

Just so everybody knows, Kia does not put full synthetic oil in ANY of their vehicles.

The powertrain warranty is 10 years or 100,000 miles, WCF. The oil change maintenance requirement for normal driving is 6,000 miles to maintain your warranty. At such a short interval, you are tossing money out the window by putting in synthetic oil.
