First oil change?

When I checked the book, 6,000 miles. The Kia app says 12,000 which seems too long for its first time. I normally do it myself, but the first one I’ll let them do it and let them take a look.
12K miles between oil changes?! Where does it say that? Are you sure you're not confusing months for miles? Because Kia does say 6K miles or one year.
plus most dealers throw in first oil change gratis
Some even throw in nine free oil changes. I am about to get my 6th. :)

I’m sure they will. I bought the car with 5,000 miles on it. It would not be fair of them to charge me, when I’ve only had it for another 2,000. Anyone else use the app?

5k is a good interval. Most other manufacturer recommends this interval.

I'm going in for my first oil change later today or tomorrow. I'm at 5400 kms.
I just check my oil level today for the first time. Being a new car, and like a dummy, I didn't check the oil level before.
Its approx. 25% higher than the low line, in respect to the space between low/full line.

Have you all experienced this too ? Does this car burn that much oil in such low mileage ? Is the factory chosen oil have high evaporation rating ?
I assume it was full new.
I know its not uncommon for some engines to burn oil, like Subaru's (especially their turbos), but ? ?

I'm switching to full synthetic. Going with a local company called Big Red that makes synthetic oil. Their overall test score numbers on various categories are pretty good. Though their NOACK (related to how much oil evaporates from the heat) score is only so so.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
At ~100 miles, mine was about 3/4 up the "hatched" mark of the dipstick. By time I changed it at 2700 miles, it was maybe a couple of MM lower, but still in the acceptable range. I don't think they're factory filled all the way to the top of that range.

That being said, it's not unusual for brand new engines to burn a bit of oil as the engine breaks in. I know on our aircraft piston engines they consume oil like there's no tomorrow until they get some hours on them (granted, totally different style of engine, but it's not uncommon).

It’s totally up to the mechanic who preps the new car. When I got mine it was actually a touch overfilled. After my first service it was barely over the low limit. I won’t go back. But the car does not use any oil.

I'll follow the manual as always. 6,000 miles/every 12 months. Which ever comes first. Not sooner or later.

Hey guys what are your thoughts on this?

I just bought a "new" 2019 kia stinger last month. It was actually sitting in the dealer lot since Aug 2018. But unsold till now and got it at 480km (300mi)

I drove it almost 1000km (600mi) and am planning to bring it in for an oil change

Thoughts? I mean the oil has been sitting in there for 2 years.. so i want to get it out

Good decision? Or wasted money?

Change it

That's not much of an "investment", so, do it. Peace of mind and all that jazz. :P In fact, why not just put in new fluids as if it came from the factory? I doubt that the dealership will be interested in talking about that for free. But it doesn't hurt to ask. Fresh, "precious fluids" for your still new car (as per miles). Just don't forget that all of your belts, hoses, gaskets and seals are already two years old.

Change it!
... if it has never been changed (I would hope the dealer would) there will probably be moisture from condensation in it...

i didnt even think of that when i was negotiating.. Already have the car but those are good points.
What was awesome is my in-service date was July 2020 so warranty up to July 2025 :) ^.^

Thanks guys changing it this friday. I never had a performance car before. Coming from old reliable jap cars.

120$ CAN for synthetic oil... thats alot for me atleast. haha most i ever paid was 70$
But wayyy better than the germans

The main lube is the engine oil...all the other oils can stand the test of time....especially just a few years......Engine oil is the life blood of every car regardless of origin.

I've put in Synthetic so far, but manual says conventional oil is fine.
I plan on doing a test with conv. oil and see how it looks in dirty colour wise and if any loss of oil at 5K kms, 6K kms, 7k kms and if no different in how dirty then the synthetic did, and if no loss... I may stick to quality conv. and save money... I can't see the engine getting damaged if the oil does hold up.
I'm not driving it hard on a track daily.

check around, a local shop may do the synthetic for you for a $100 tax in..
There's one near me in bowmanville, Ont... $89 plus tax, full synthetic (Big Red, local oil company)

Looks will tell you nothing and may even fool you - send a sample of each to blackstone labs

I buy Synthetic Oil when it goes on sale at CT and give it to my dealer to put in during service. Right now they have Quaker State Ultimate Durability for $30-32. Though when the Motomaster Synthetic goes on its in the mid $20's and is made by Shell(Pennzoil)

For your Stinger you just popped in the drop in filters?

Curious to know if anybody is having to add oil in between oil changes?

I have only done two changes so far, but I did pay attention to that and it was full both times before changing and I did one at just under 6K kms and next one over 8K kms (cause warm weather conditions, not harsh) and wasn't low at all, yet.
Will check on the next one too.

Just picked up a couple of jugs of the Quaker State Ultimate Durability. Taking the beast in on Tuesday for its first oil change. Like to do it after first the 1000km to remove the crap and particles. Done it for all my cars.
