Anyone have first-hand experience with the Stillen exhaust? I liked the sound in the promo video they have, but haven't been able to find anything else

Yes, I've had the Stillen intake and exhaust for a little over three months now. Love the tone of it, however it seems to continually been getting louder over time. The two work very well together, giving the little whistle and whooshes under the hood, and a sporty grumble in the rear. I know most exhaust change in tone as it heats up and gets some miles on it, but it has gotten much louder than the original one that I heard before installing it. It isn't obnoxious, but it is starting to get a bit on the droney side, so I laid down sound dampening mats in the trunk to help reduce some of the vibrations. It's quiet when you're idling or keeping it in the low RPM's, but really does come to life as you step on it. The little roar it gives off coming back on from the auto start/stop is pretty enjoyable too.

I've taken some in cabin videos, but I just a suction cup mount for my gopro that I intend to mount back there to get a true audio sound for it sometime soon. Just been too busy with work to do it.

Did they use hangars for the exhaust.I had to replace a name brand exhaust--over 1k because the hangars that they use slowly loosen up and the whole exhaust shakes microscopically creating the dreaded drone.I have a muffler delete with the exhaust welded in 4 spots to the undercarriage of the car and not only does it sound meaner and deeper--there is hardly any drone.Here is my video and I explain it.I found an exhaust guy that had worked for ganassi racing and he explained to me what to do and I have been doing the exhaust on my cars for years like this and will never buy one of the name brand exhausts because of what you describe.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OyiGsfWgSoM&t=165s

I would love to see the continuation of this thread.

I am looking for just an exhaust as a possible future upgrade. Something with little drone but louder than current exhaust. And another 10% performance increase would be awesome.

Recently installed a Kunstwerk Racing EVC exhaust and secondary downpipe, I'm super happy with it, sounds fantastic valves open, and near stock volume when valves are closed, nice burbles on decel whether the valves are open or closed. Quality and fitment is great.

I had a shop install it, and I’m not flat or brave enough to get under there with jack stands

Pricing is competitive with other EVC exhausts but in my opinion quality will blow the competition out of the water, obviously carefully hand made. It’s also super trick that you can program your homelink buttons to open and close the valves

Here's a video from a couple of days after the install, I'm working on a proper audio/video setup, we did a shoot just this last weekend to capture some new media, but the audio turned out like shit (I bought a recorder with remote mics, but all it picked up was what sounds like air pressure, not the actual sound. I may do the exact same shoot again but just stick the gopro to the rear of the car again and use it purely for audio)

No full throttle run here, was just testing out the camera setup.

We were supposed to be capturing video from the front and audio from the rear in this clip, so all you're getting is the front. This is a project in progress clearly has it's kinks

Yes, I wanted my write-up to be as detailed as possible so I weighed the entire exhaust, that's mid-pipe and two mufflers with their pipes to compare to my new exhaust. The total for all pieces was 56.8lbs.

It's possible the company that created that picture you posted was trying to over-state the weight savings of their exhaust by exaggerating the weight of the stock exhaust.

What exhaust is lighter than stock? I'm looking into MBRP pro and Magnaflow. How come they don't have this information?

After a good while of going back and forth, I've finally settled on the Quicksilver exhaust. They're finalizing production of the first group buy batch now, and they've told me I should have the exhaust by early December. There's a good video on their store page. They put a lot of time into researching and tweaking the exhaust. Has a nice, deep tone and doesn't sound all ricey.

I had MBRP before I upgraded. I didn’t weigh it, but I would say it’s lighter, particularly the mufflers.

Guys, this is a great thread. I recently bought the Borla type S for my 3.3T Stinger and I hate the noise and drone levels. Just makes the car stressful to drive. I can't return the exhaust so I'm probably going to eat it.

I do have some exhaust tips coming in to see if I can at least kill the drone, but frustrated by the fact that I even need to buy the tips to have the exhaust properly fit and vent exhaust.

I'm looking at the Thermal system, and wanted to know general thoughts on it as it compares to Borla?

All exhaust systems mellow a bit after a few months, carbon deposits inside the pipes to be exact. The tips are cheap fortunately so that should help with the drone. Also, consider silenced downpipes from Quicksilver which would replace the pipes infront of your catback and should tone down some of the harshness.

This is the opposite of what I've experienced. The aftermarket exhausts I've had on my cars have always become louder with time. It's probably dependent on the muffler used but I've never had one become quieter with more use.

As for Quicksilver's mid-pipes, don't they delete the secondary cats? I don't see how that could possibly make them more quiet than the stock setup. On the page you linked Quicksilver claims it will "enhance that sports car sound."

Secondary cat delete in conjunction with Borla's catback will probably make him pull his hair out.

My question was rhetorical. Deleting cats won't tone down his exhaust's noise. You gave him stupid advice and I was trying to be polite by gingerly leading you down the correct path. "Polite" or "gingerly" aren't things I'm particularly good at, but I tried.

The "silenced" midpipes reduce the harshness and rasp, which is quite bad on the Borla system. They aren't like the other midpipes.

Yeah but the guy you told to get silenced downpipes to has factory downpipes doesnt he? The silenced aftermarket downpipes are still going to be less restrictive and louder than stock so I agree it's not good advice for him to go get any of the aftermarket downpipe options if he wants a quieter exhaust and less drone. Thd best advice to him is to get the tips and or have a shop add a resonator in the borla midpipe...

I've been looking at the forum for hours. I've put together this incomplete chart comparing exhausts. I realize the loudness of the exhaust is relative and is somewhat based on the individual. However, this should be a good start for someone to hone in on what they would like to have in an exhaust.

For example, I would like the to cruise quietly down the highway (no drone) and yet yield as much power as possible at WOT.

I'm keeping the numbers (1-5) relative to the original exhaust; where 1 is quiet (equal to stock) and 5 if very loud compared to stock.

I'm willing to update this chart if people would like to give feedback. Hopefully, this will help others as well as me.
