Excessive Road Noise? Howling/humming sound

"HMMM..."

I just checked my six "fasteners". HAH! They "fasten" to air. So, What Are They For? I suppose, because of @DrKronwall (thanks a LOT!), that this trailing "tail" on the under panel could get loose and wobbly/dangly and start making buffeting noises. My under panel feels nice and firm; I just checked obviously; or I wouldn't be continuing this dialogue. But the "fasteners", the faux fasteners, are there for show; no purpose beyond that, that I can tell.

I dont exactly know how to go about getting this fixed. I think that's where the noise is coming from, but I dont want to start messing with it myself and the dealer basically told me there's nothing wrong with it, and they weren't going to do anything about it.

I found this number - 855-454-2847 after doing some digging on the forum. It's the Kia Premium Customer Service # for Stinger and K900 owners. I was considering calling and seeing if I could get anywhere. This noise is not acceptable on a brand new car.

I called the number and they gave me the same run around as the dealer did. Pretty soon I'm gonna look into what it takes for the lemon law if they dont get their act together. They can't charge that much for a car and expect people to just accept a noise like that.

Ugh, I will call them tomorrow too. I took the car to run some errands and had the volume of the stereo on 40 and I could hear the noise over the music, this is unbelievable.

I have to bring mine back into the dealer anyways because they messed up the alignment when it was in there before. I'm gonna bring it up again, since the volume of the noise seems to be increasing for me the more I drive it. I'm gonna tell them to look at it again, and I'm going to have them show me the same sound on another of their stingers on the lot (I dont think its true, they just said that so they could say what they are saying about the sound and make us take the cars back before they had to refund us).

I was thinking the exact same thing, I would want to take out a few of the cars to verify for myself as well. I’m not buying that, they acknowledge a problem and can’t figure it out so they claim it as normal- yeah right. Keep pressuring them, I’m not going to let this slide

I'm bringing mine back in tomorrow afternoon. I've been watching a ton of videos of various howling noises that are being made by any car, not just stingers, and the closest thing I can find to the sound my car is making that isn't wind related is a differential with bad gears on a mustang. It would be really sad if that is the issue after less than 1000 miles.

I find it odd that both our cars were purchased around the same time from the same dealer, most likely manufactured at the same time too. I wonder if something was half assed when they were built. When you bring it in mention that I’m also considering bringing mine back...maybe they will take it more seriously this time around.

I was also thinking about going and test driving a used stinger locally to see if it makes the noise or not after it has thousands of miles on it.

Surely one or more of the following
Bad wheel bearing
Poor wheel balance
Bad tyre (unlikely but worn out rubber makes howling noise

So a couple things I've noticed over the last 2 days. On a cold start in the morning the noise doesn't happen until I get the car up to 60mph, if I keep it below 60 it sounds normal. Once I hit 60 the noise happens from 60+, and continues when I decelerate down to 30mph. The noise is the loudest at 61-62mph, otherwise it is pretty much the same volume level which leads me to believe it isn't wind related, but is coming from something in the drive train.

They need to be examining the drivetrain when you drop it off. Did you get a front alignment done?

Not yet, im dropping it off this afternoon.
Good, make sure everything checks out with alignment, wheel balance etc too. I’ve noticed the sound as low as 10 mph in some parking lots so I’m not ruling out something with the wheels/tires quite yet

Ya, I will. Its gotta be something that is either in the drive train itself, or suspension/wheels/tires.

I'm setting up an appointment to bring it to another dealer for a second opinion. I called Premier Support and that was their recommendation, I guess it's worth a try.

Darn, I thought this was going to be about the noise I have! I've described it as blowing over the top of a bottle, too, but mine is higher pitched. It sets in about 30-35 mph, and goes away after that. I thought at first it was rear-end howl, but I don't think that's it. I'm not going to worry my pretty head about it as long as it goes away after about 35 mph.

If ours went away after 35 mph it wouldn't be as much of a concern. How long has yours been making this noise?

I found a video after browsing the Volvo Polestar forums - apparently some owners have reported hearing the exact same noise. This video is the most accurate and audibly noticeable representation of the issue we're talking about in this thread. Listen closely, imagine someone blowing over an open bottle right next to ear. The noise gets louder as you drive over expansion joints etc. It may be the tires? Still digging to get to the bottom of this.

Hmm, thats interesting. Seems like that wouldn't be hard for them to test out. If it does end up being the tires then they should replace them for us. I'm definitely not buying new ones already.
