Door Frame Ticking / Squeaking Elimination

I still get a ticking when my car has been parked in the blazing sun and I drove. I honestly think it has something to do with the grab handle. When I hold onto it I feel it clicking a little bit.

Not yet...
Whats the milage on yours? I have ~12k and the door has ticking, will get hockey tape to fix asap. No sunroof rattle or hatch rattle. The screen squeaks sometimes, plasticky squeaks but I suppose this is normal.

Just 2000 km yet - I had some noise in the sun roof after around 500km but was able to fix it. Everything else is quiet, no plastic squeaks at all.
Keep fingers crossed it does not start later making noises.

No need to worry, it is 99% quiet. Just a minor thing :D

LOL. It's my OCD against squeaks and rattles that motivates me. :p
I can't wait to try this. I hear squeeks throughout, but this one on the door is right next to my ear and can even hear it with music on sometimes. Hopefully this will resolve it.

You are a God amongst men!

How did you eliminate the sunroof noises? Dozens on here with ticking/rattling units will be interested to know. Mine only makes noises it if the headliner is open, but others have some serious problems that have even ended in a complete sunroof replacement!

Finally got rid of door ticking noises today. I applied some Gummi Pfledge Stift (Rubber Care Stick) on all the rubber seals around the doors and hatchback. So far so good. Didn't do the sunroof yet because I have no noise at all coming from there. Don't know how long it will last though... But it's very easy to apply, so it won't be so bad if I have to do it again. Did anybody use this product, and how long did it last ? It's my first time using it. Thanks.

when you wash your car make sure you wash all the gaskets now , the lube attracts and holds dust a bit !!

Good to know, thanks. I'm curious as to why newer models don't seem to suffer from that problem ? Did Kia change the composition of the rubber seals on newer models ? Also, I've had many cars before my Stinger GT Limited, about 10, and none of them ever suffered from this problem.

The great majority of us don't have extraneous noise issues of any kind; otherwise the forum would be flooded with hundreds if not thousands of complainers! Individual vehicles (admittedly not few enough) have this noise or that one or BOTH or ALL THREE. But also, most noise complaints can be and are remedied.

My door seals seem to stay fairly quiet for about 1 to 2 months after applying gummi pflege. I still plan to pick up shinetsu soon hoping it lasts a bit longer. I think the noises are due to the composition of the type of plastic used on the door trim that mates against the rubber seal. Even rubbing your thumb on it makes a little noise, I imagine the seals are doing a similar thing. If I get motivated, I'll look at wrapping the plastic trim with felt because thay should be quiet against the rubber.

After market exhaust fixes all squeaks and rattles.

You're not wrong, my Mustang proved that point. Assuming I keep the car, I'm probably going to weld in my electric exhaust cutouts next year lol.

Wish there was an equivalent to the felt for the sunroof!!! In addition to some actual (metallic) rattles that some have and some do not, the ticking and popping around the whole perimeter of the closed roof screams of some combination of materials that do not like to be pressed together. But since it's a sunroof, modifying anything could result in leaks or worse.

I think the sunroof suffers from the same type of seal noise as the sunroof, but if you have the "popping," that is from a different source and is louder than the seal noise. The seal noise is present for me when the sunroof is not making popping noises, the best way to describe it is "smucking" or more or less very little ticks. Closing the sunshade completely eliminates the seal noises, but not popping. Using the same "thumb friction" technique on the seal mating area of the sunroof as the door trim makes a similar ticking when the resistance of your thumb slips against the plastic, I think the type of material is similar. I think the seal "sticks" to that surface and as there is movement in the doors and sunroof, when the mating plastics move under vehicle motion while the seal is stationary, it makes a little tick as the seal is trying to pull away from the friction of this material. It might be possible that the face of the seal might wear away/degrade over time which might actually cause these seal ticking noises to go away...or....potential make it worse, who knows.

The sunroof popping itself, I've mentioned I'm quite certain it is the sunroof frame and/or headliner. If the frame, I'm betting on something to do with the hardware/mating area that it mounts to the roof. If the headliner, I think it is a friction between the headliner and the sunroof frame most likely.

OK, you have described things much better than me :) I have the ticking. It started a few weeks back and is getting progressively worse. The sun shade does NOT eliminate ticking, but it does a nice job of masking it. If you have the stereo on and the shade closed, only those with good hearing would notice. Have appointment at dealer Thursday, which I am sure will be a colossal waste of my time. It is not heat-related as it is getting worse as temps decline.

I also had a small amount of the metallic popping--which was eliminated when you close the headliner. Or jam your finger into the front area of the sunroof closure beneath the sunroof. That popping was also 100% eliminated if you cracked open the roof even by the smallest amount. Based on advice here, I applied pressure to the metal bar (pushing it hard towards the front of the car) at the front underside of the sunroof and the popping has either not returned or is very infrequent. It used to happen often enough to be a distraction.

The constant ticking (unless the car is stopped or on glass-smooth road) is definitely a distraction!! Especially because it did not do it at all (for the first 18 months of the car's life) until very recently .

I think you have the same issue as Kamauxx. His noises seem to go away when he tilts the glass open. For me, the sunroof in the tilted up position seems to be the most noisy out of all the positions. I think my issue has to do with the sunroof being rested in the front most position, yours and Kamauxx seems to be an issue of the entire sunroof being closed, so maybe your issue is related to the back portion of the sunroof and the front is good?

Not sure. When my roof is open, I can bang my fist on it from the top and no rattles or noises. When it is closed fully, there is some metallic rattling from the front (on occasion or not at all depending on the position of the metal bar). The obvious culprit would be the spring-mounted pop-up wind screen that folds and gets squished in there when the roof is closed. Is it not touching other metal, particularly when the car is jolted over a bump? I know of no way of testing that theory without removing the pop-up screen. Is there any soft material that can be put on it that won't jam or cause a problem? But a spring-mounted item like that is bound to be a problem unless the only thing it touches when compressed is soft/rubber.

The ticking is completely different. It is making noise based on the most micro-vibrations or tiny amount of resonance in the body of the car. It seems like a seals issue--two materials that are pressed together that don't like it. Whether it is age or some other factor, the seals all around my roof have suddenly become noisy at an alarming rate. Again, is there a temporary test of some material that can be put somewhere that won't damage the seals or cause water leakage? I'll be happy to test. When I open the roof, there is no debris whatsoever in the tracks. Because of how it opens up outside the car, you can't even access the whole perimeter to try to see what might be rubbing.

Definitely two completely unrelated problems, though. And, as mentioned, there is a third one where the roof must be loose on its mounts and it rattles when open and even when closed (thank goodness I don't also have that problem).
