DIY Hatch Rattle Repair

I tried the washers behind the plastic bump-blocks on either side of the hatch but that seems to just keep the hatch from sealing good and tight which worries me that moisture could get in with the hard rains we get. Ended up just wrapping about 3 wraps of electrical tape around the latch and that fixed mine. The tape will wear out with enough hatch opening and closing cycles so I need to do something a bit more permanent but for now that was a fast fix. No more rattles over bumpy roads.

I've been thinking about this lately as I also have the rattle and placed the washers in the spot the TSB mentions. Still have the slightest rattle but don't seem to have any issues with sealing. Thinking of pulling out the calipers and getting a measurement on the bottom latch. Then using that to find a piece of rubber tubing or something of the sort to place around the latch. Obviously nothing too thick. Figure that way it's easily replaceable if it does wear out and it also won't leave a sticky mess.

Move the latch down a little. That's what the tape on it is doing, just making the loop thicker so it pulls the hatch down more.

You can adjust the screw bump stops on either side of the hatch down a bit. That will make the latch pull down a little harder. These bump stops should be at a little more than 1 inch. The exact dimension should be the TSB. I put mine at about 1 1/16 inches. I also added a zip tie around the shaft of the bump stop to prevent it screwing in by itself. Wit’s the washer kit and this adjustment the rattle is completely gone.

That's a very good possibility that could be the issue. Just saw the recommended length for those is between .94 and 1.02" (24-26mm). I'll give them a check the next time I get a chance.

Use rubber o-ring instead of washers behind the blocks, seals the join (if worried about water ingress) and allows better flex

I e used cork gasket material, cut to the size and shape of the bumper put the cork on the backside of the bumper. It worked great for a while but the cork compressed so then I added a zinc, coated, thin washer and back as well tightened up the bumpers rattle has been completely gone, even in the extreme cold here in Minnesota

I put washers under the bumper which works great, but you can see where the bumper is wearing but no raddle for a long time now

I would not be surprised if at some point in time if we use our hatch a lot and I do we may have to replace those rubber bumpers on each side. I consider it maintenance no big deal rather than listen to the damn thing rattle.

Dude, where are you been for the last four years? I haven’t tried this. I’ve eliminated the rattle for now, but I’m gonna definitely take a look and share with my son who also has a stinger with a rattle thanks man!
I know the issue has to be tension on the latch, or in this case the lack there of. If tape on the latch bar fixes the the issue, then that means there is a gap between the latch hook (the part in the trunk lid) and the latch bar ( the part mounted to the body) and the tape is filling that gap. I figured that means there has to be some kind of adjustment designed into it. Upon my searching for "how to adjust trunk latch" I came across this pdf specifically for the stinger.
