The TSB on the trunk rattle says those stoppers should be 1 inch so they are not supposed to be turned in tight.
Yes mine has that same thunk after the dealer fix as well.I did this DIY last night. Thank you for the idea!! I think the trunk has a bit of a hard time closing now and opens with a "thunk" when the release loses the tension it has on the hook affixed to the body (if that makes sense).
Rattle is gone now though!
I have been to dealer three times now, there is still a rattle and the hatch seems not to close as well as it used too. Kia needs to resolve this issue. My hatch started to rattle again about 6 mo after I did the fix that I described to start this thread.
I cut and installed an additional silicone sheet spacer between the bumpers and hatch and this seems to have fixed it, at least for now.
The hatch now sits about 2 mm above the level of the fenders.
Has Kia service done anything additional to stop the rattle in cars that continue to rattle despite installation of the TSB kit? The TSB kit alone did not fix the rattle in my car.

Make sure you complain to KIA USA , they will issue a file number if you complain enough , the dealers are useless on stuff like thisI have been to dealer three times now, there is still a rattle and the hatch seems not to close as well as it used too. Kia needs to resolve this issue.
Why not glue it in that position to the other black piece? Would that work?My quick and easy hatch rattle fix. Firstly I had the TSB done which improved it but not fixed. Then as suggested by others I screwed out the stoppers. Once again an improvement but not a full fix.
Then wanting to try something quick and easy I found some rubber strip, cut it to length and cut the bottom to match the slope of the hatch rail. 5 minutes work and now months of rattle free driving.
Ok so not pretty and I have to keep checking it is in position when I open / close the hatch but it works for me. I may at some point when the mood takes me look at a more professional fix but this is doing fine so far

Could you provide some photos? Thanks guys for the info. I actually bought some decently thick gt mat to put behind the license plate and used some leftovers behind the bumpers. Worked like a champ.
It's not the prettiest, but who the hell sees it anyway? I made it extend past the bumper. This is what I bought:Could you provide some photos?
I did this fix last week (I just used two washer) and it's been working great. Actually drove the next day; was almost at work and noticed how quite it was lolFound this today:
Interesting. I have my 7500 oil change soon and am gonna see if they finally have a fix for the recall. If not, I'll try this!I did this fix last week (I just used two washer) and it's been working great. Actually drove the next day; was almost at work and noticed how quite it was lol
Not Allen bolt ... it's a torx.Found this today:
I cut two small pads out of a piece of 1/8" rubber and stuck them where the adjustable overslam bumpers contact the body. No more rattle. Adjust the screw-in/screw-out bumpers to taste.
