Hello, everyone,

have any of you guys installed a dashcam on the windshield of your Stinger?

I'm thinking about it right now.

But I'm not sure, because I don't know how easy it is to open the fairing to install the cable from the dashcam to the cigarette lighter.

I would love to hear from someone who already has a Dashcam installed in the Stinger. Which is the best cable routing? Was it easy? Do you have any helpful tips?

Thank you for your feedback.

Many greetings
Stephan

Welcome aboard, @Stephan! Thank you for signing up. And congratulations on your new Stinger! I can't help with the dash cam installation so I'll let somebody else chime in on that. Otherwise, which model and color did you get? And what did your Stinger replace?

I have the cable tucked into the top and A pillar, then just across the steering wheel and down to the cigarette lighter. Didn't open up anything, but it's not intrusive either.

Thank you for the nice welcome @Kia Stinger
I got the 3,3l GT in White. It replaced my BMW 325d.

@tofu : Thanks for your response. Sounds pretty easy! That's good :)

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
Yeah I installed my last one on my Forte, but decided to pay Best Buy to install mine since it's such a new car..

I got the front and rear one installed for $100 which I think is a pretty good deal, they even installed it in the fuse box so it's not taking up any cig lighter spots! everything is hidden.

I had my BlackVue from my last car (front only) installed by a mobile service tech who came to my home, cable is fully concealed & also in fusebox same as @seanmccubb. Leave it to the pro’s.

$100 for them to take the risk and have to fix any damage is a bargain. I've spent 20 minutes alone trying to work out how to get the hatchback apart to run the cable to the rear one....not brave enough - yet.

Anyone know if messing with the fuse box voids the warranty ?

I wouldn’t think so as long at the messing around is done by a licensed/certified auto electrician , anyone else I would say Yes warranty is void.

Sean,

Did you buy the dash cam from Best Buy as well? Which one did you go with?

Hey, gang. New Stinger owner here as well. Waiting to pick up my Ceramic Grey GT2 AWD with red interior this week. Handing off my 2013 KIA Optima EX to my sister who needs a reliable car, so I am moving up with KIA's venture into this new class which is a first for both of us.

I had a Vantrue N2 dash cam in the Optima which I am leaving for her to use while I get a new dash cam for the Stinger. I liked the Vantrue's cabin camera, rather than a rear camera as you can turn it to record interactions at the driver window, etc. But I would like to have a true rear camera.

I definitely like the idea of wiring them through the fuse box to avoid the cabling also.

Welcome @SamOrlando! You’ve made a good decision first, to buy your new Stinger, second joining this enthusiast community. Congratulations! BTW, Did you experience any issues owning the Optima?

None at all; or from the previous KIA Spectra I had before it. Which is the main reason I am still with KIA. I have had 5 others vehicles in my life and none have been nearly as reliable.

So I got this one from Amazon for $100, and Best Buy installed it no problem, but if you buy it from them they can fix it if it breaks.

The one I bought is okay... The software feels clunky but I haven't had any issues yet!

I kinda wish I bought the Aunky one as I like their products.

You got the best color btw ;) Yeah having it wired in out of sight is the best way I think and for $100 in labor for both cams, you can't beat that.

I did some shopping last night and YouTubing on How-Tos and ordered the Vantrue N2 Pro and hardwire kit. I have a Vantrue N2 in the Optima, so I am used to it. I was looking for a front/rear dash cam, but then I realized I am not sure how the wiring would work with the hatchback, so I decided to stick with what I know.

Great to know. Thanks for sharing.

I'm a fellow convert from a 535i GT to a Stinger GT2! I find myself driving the Stinger more than I did the Bimmer.

Installing a BlackVue DR900s-2CH and hardwiring with a Power Magic Pro, this weekend. Plenty of Youtube guides on how to install the Power Magic Pro and wiring. So I gathered:
  • Trim removal tool
  • APT ATR / Micro2 type fuse tap plus extra fuses
  • Wire fishing/noodler
  • Circuit tester
  • Voltmeter (possible better option - Autel AL539)
Now I just need to get out there and install it without damaging anything in the process.

In cars with sunroofs, I found switched power in the overhead "console" where the interior lights and sunroof controls are located. I wouldn't run a tire inflator from it, but I've used them to power multiple dash cams over the years.

Cars without a sunroof often don't have switched power, but do often have permanent power. I have pulled the A-pillar trim off in cases, but it's usually possible to run a small cable behind the rubber seal without showing.

Most dashcams have a USB power port, so instead of using a bulky 12V adapter most come with, I get compact 12V-USB adapters, and wire them directly, obviously well insulated. Then either run a standard USB cord to the cam, or in the case of my personal vehicles, run a splitter / Y cable, so I can power my cam, but also have a spare if, say, I want to run a powered gopro, or run power to a phone as a GPS.

Took me 7 hours, but got everything hardwired. Tucked the wires in the trim. The biggest pain was the Power Magic Pro. Had to quadruple check the connections because the thing was intermittent. Flipping the settings switches seemed to help. For the yellow wire, I hooked it up to one of the power seat fuses. And for the ignition, I found an unused/open fuse not labeled in the diagram.

The DR900S setup was also a pain. My suggestion is to update the firmware first. Afterward seemed to be slightly more stable.
