Carbon Fiber Hood Question

______________________________
That's very interesting. I wonder what the OEM specs are, I'm sure I could find them somewhere.
Might be right on the strut itself. Or at least a part number that could be cross referenced.

These are off the shelf items, no way Kia would engineer a brand new strut. Can walk into any auto parts store and find dozens of sizes.

what is the overall length of the strut when its fully extended (hood open)?
I'm searching options myself. Looks like ours are around 12" fully extended. The optima guys are using a single 45lb for the carbon hoods so we gotta be similar

Along this same line, i notice some of the carbon hood say hood pins required. Are people adding hood pins? If so pics?

I haven't used pins, but it does suggest to. I'm looking for pins that really "speak" to me. lol

It's been a minute since I owned a Carbon Fiber hood (past cars); But every single one of them did not fit like OEM in terms of spacing between hood and car body. Have the engineering of Carbon Fiber hoods gotten better in terms of being identical to OEM fitment?

I believe only Ark was the only manufacture that had fitment issues with the Stinger. Seibon/Strictly Business looks to be on point from what I have seen.

$75 for struts is ludicrous. All you need are the dimensions and lift force used. Any replacement matching that will suffice. For example something like this:

Finding the correct lift force is crucial however else you'd run into the same issues as the OEM ones.

Just need the specs is all. I'm the first one to pint out when someone is going cheap, but at the same time spending 10X more is just as silly.

Just a heads up that the size for the Stinger is kind of an oddball. Also there isn't much wiggle room with the hood all the way open to use something that's a different size. That is, unless you don't mind the lift extension being at least an inch less. I went through quite a number of the universal struts before resorting to getting them custom-made specifically for the car. Its not like our company has the buying power of Kia or any other auto manufacturer and the market itself, being incredibly small, simply can't support the buy-in and development costs, so we just did it ourselves and whatever it came out to be is what it is. I understand that the price is higher than universal struts but these aren't really for everyone to be honest. If someone spends around $1000 on a hood and wants equal lift instead of potentially cooked with a single strut, then these are made specifically to fill that need. We do what we can to keep our pricing down but in this case it was as best we could do for the market

I’ll be getting these. I’ve looked at two buddies’ Stingers who are using them, and I definitely see the need.

So as of right now there are no issues with these struts when used with a CF hood?

There wouldn't be. These are basically OEM struts with 50% of the lift pressure. The issue with using the OEM struts is that they're just too strong for a composite material hood and can cause fit issues due to the pressure being too much. The ones we make solve that issue.
